    Hair loss

A reader’s colleague has suffered with hair loss and breakage for the last six years.  She has seen a trichologist and a dermatologist and was diagnosed with “chronic telogen effluvium”.  She has a healthy diet but has been told that she has an iron deficiency.  Can anyone offer any suggestions?

    Re: Hair loss

    Hi,

After a serious surgery my hair started to fall out. I went to the A.R.E. facility here in NYC and bought some Chinese herbs specifially for the treatment of hair loss. Also found Lila Hair Tonic , Chi's Enterprise, Inc. Anaheim, CA 92807. Both were very helpful. My hair stopped falling out and seems fuller than before. Either it would have recovered anyway or the products worked. Who can know for sure. But I would certainly try the herbs.

    All the best,

    A friend

    Re: Hair loss

Many people mistakenly believe they have a 'healthy' diet, due to the misinformation abounding as to what that consists of, even from some professionals in the sector of diet and nutrition.

My bet is that you are deficient in certain nutrients, assuming there is not some other cause, such as high stress levels, trauma, etc.

Find a good nutritional advisor, or speak with Lambert's Healthcare whose informed experts maybe able to help and advise you for nothing!.

    Re: Hair loss

I had very noticeable thinning of the hair.  After much testing for an underactive thyroid and various hormone related problems, I was eventually diagnosed with Sleep apnoea.  I read a lot about both of these conditions and started taking 3000mg of evening primrose oil daily. As a result of this, my hair has gradually grown back in over the last year.  I got a CPAP mask for the sleep apnoea six months ago and this speeded up the regrowth process too.

From my experience, I have come to the conclusion that hair loss is definitely hormone related - this can happen due to both an underactive thyroid and the hormone imbalances caused by sleep deprivation.

    Re: Hair loss

According to TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine), nothing can replenish the iron deficiency better than eating liver. You can cook them with onions and make any delicious recipes, must be eaten at least 3 times a week and must be ORGANIC !!!  Many of my patients in Japan have recovered from anaemia within 5 weeks when they included liver 3 times a week into their diet. Also, I would suggest to do hair analysis and see how is your toxicity/heavy metals and other mineral balance. There could be other elements which are causing bad iron metabolism. It is worth trying. Smokey Laboratories in the USA can do accurate hair analysis which will give you pretty good picture what is causing the iron not being absorbed.

    Re: Hair loss

Hair loss can be associated with hormonal imbalance, particularly relating to menopause.  I have resolved my own hair loss problems by taking Red Clover extract to replace diminishing oestrogen; a natural progesterone cream; and Silica.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Hair loss

I have suffered hair loss and breakage over a long period. Had a blood test done for Iron deficiency and was at the low end of the scale. Was introduced to a product called Florisene by Lamberts by a trichologist - see http://www.florisene.com/ for details. Have also been taking 3mg of Boron daily which is also said to prevent hair loss. My hair has regained volume albeit it is fine and very little now falls out, hope it helps but please do your own research to check other causes, especially if you supplement with iron. Also Indian Head Massages stimulate the skull. Suggest you consult a good doctor and read up on all the above before acting or taking supplements.

    Re: Hair loss

I find that i lose hair when i am stressed.

I also went through a phase of eating dry muesli for a few months. It was only when i started losing more hair than normal that i read about the high level of pthalates present in grains, that interfere with mineral absorption. Since then i have learnt to soak all grains before cooking/eating them. soaking helps reduce the digestive enzyme inhibitors that are present in all dried food products to stop them from spoiling. Soaking therefore helps us digest these food products much more easily and absorb the nutrients better.

You may be doing this already. Just in case you were not aware of this..

    Re: Hair loss

With telogen effluvium, you need to check whether you have any toxicities in the body. At my practice, I have seen lots of clients who have metal toxicity from fillings in teeth (mainly amalgam fillings). A health kinesiologist will be able to test toxic metals to see whether any of them are causing problems and which supplements you need to take to get rid of them. The book Regrowing Hair Naturally explains about my findings concerning female hair loss problems and what to do about it.
