Has anyone tried Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)??

I have searched  all over this site for any mention of LDN, which is a hot topic in the media at present, and can find nothing!  Is this is a case of WDDTY not telling us?  I am a member of an LDN forum and the reports, internationally, of its successes with M.S, Fibromyalgia, autism, Crohn's etc etc are too impressive to be dismissed.

There is a petition on the Downing Street website calling for more research into this drug which, reportedly has little or no side effects and is cheap!  The resulting benefits from widespread use of LDN would not only save the NHS billions but improve the health of so many sufferers without the cost and side effects of the commonly prescribed drugs.

It works by switching off the immune system for 2-3 hours at night which, subsequently, gives the immune system a massive boost the next day and releases a burst endorphins.

Has anyone any experience of LDN?  I would love to hear more about it from anyone with first hand experience..

YES.  we are trying out LDN as a treatment for severe Crohn's for our teenage son.  so far so good but with some reservations!
after 3 months, the symptoms of Crohn's have pretty much disappeared, which sounds miraculous.  however, the side effects are quite
difficult to cope with, including insomnia and depression.  and very bad excema which the LDN so far has not helped.  you have to
combine LDN with limited diet and nutritional treatments such as omega 3, probiotics, Vit A, Vit D, iron and ZINC at high dose,  otherwise it is not that effective.  anyway, we are impressed at how quickly he achieved remission from the worst of the Crohn's symptoms. There is a trial currently
at Penn State University and the initial results are very promising - search for "Treatment with LDN for paediatric Crohn's  patients" on the web for
further information.  It is not easy to get hold of LDN, but I can recommend Dr Tom Gilhooly and Dr S. Haggerty at Glasgow Essential Health Clinic  or Dr Bob Lawrence in Swansea.  There is a Facebook group for LDN too.

I heard a very fascinating interview with Dr. Bob Lawrence on Mary Boyle Bradley's internet radio show. You can listen to this show at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/Mary-Boyle-Bradley/2009/09/29/The-Mary-Bradley-Show. In any case, Dr. Lawrence said that he has some patients on doses of LDN that are lower than the "norm." Perhaps the side effects would be lessened if your son tried doing that. (I would check with your doctor first, of course!)

Also, Oct 19-25 is International LDN Awareness Week, and I have written a 116-page ebook, with lots of LDN resources for the occasion. It is on my site (www.HonestMedicine.com) at  http://tinyurl.com/nfwkra You may download it for free on  my site.

    Hope this helps.
