    Gum abscess

I have had pain from a tooth for the last 3-4 months.  Dentist couldn't find a problem except that it is being squeezed backwards by surrounding teeth, and is twisting, catching the nerve.  Managed the pain brilliantly by acupuncture, but now it seems the nerve has died, and a fissure has opened from tooth into the gum.  This was infected and I had a buccal abscess, which didn't hurt much, but wouldn't go even after a short course of antibiotics.  This week the dentist lanced it and drained but said it may return - which it has.  He says the only thing to cure it will be removing the tooth, which I'm not keen on as it seems unneccesary if I can only get rid of the infection.  Has anyone got any ideas to help?

I feel for you - toothache is miserable.  Have you tried rinsing your mouth out with a strong solution of salt water?  I find salt is very healing.

    I wish you well.

    Re: Gum abscess

    Hi, M White,

Back in 2003, I had a tooth pulled because I cracked a root and bacteria got in. Even a root canal did not take away the pain.

I have just had to have another tooth pulled, beside that one, because I had an abcess and although I held it off for quite some time with sea salt rinses, energy healing, etc., it turns out (by x-ray) that the root was actually dissolving and that generally even if caught early, which mine was not, the process cannot be reversed. The dentist said it is possible that the root was dissolving due to bacteria from the original tooth that was pulled.

I was sorry to lose another tooth, but I too suffered for several months before giving in, at which point I was taking serious painkillers. I am now grateful that I did it and didn't wait any longer! Apparently if you hold off too long, the bacteria can get into your jawbone, and then you will be in an enormous mess, with needing to have bone removed and get bone grafts, etc.

It is your decision, but I urge you to get more information from your dentist without delay. If the tooth does need to come out, you shouldn't wait.

    Re: Gum abscess

    Hi,

I have suffered from gum/tooth abcess.  In the end, the tooth is best out. Have just had this done myself after months of trying to ignore discomfort.  Oh the relief!  Did see a homeopath first and took belladona and then silica. I also practice reiki and this too helps healing.  It has healed beautifully and my mouth feels so much more comfortable.  I probably have as many gaps as teeth, but now not in pain.  I do understand how distressing it is to have to make this decision, but infection in the gum can lead to infected bone.   Take vit.c. high dose whatever decision you make and good luck.

    Re: Gum abscess

Before last resort, which may be necessary, try high strength oregano oil - very effective at killing bacteria.  2-3 drops in the gum area; allow to remain in mouth for up to 15 minutes and then swallow.   Also google oil pulling for ongoing maintenance.  Antiobiotics will generally not get to the bacteria/infected area; particularly if it is within a root canal system or tooth.

    Re: Gum abscess

If you are with an NHS dentist there is little he can do within his government imposed financial constraints. The NHS really only requires him to enable you to masticate food, and if that turns out eventually to mean with dentures, then so be it.

If you are paying privately for your dentistry I can see no reason for this not to be sorted out professionally without extraction. There is a number of courses of action available.

    Re: Gum abscess

Hi i too have struggled with tooth abscesses and have tried all sorts of things including rinsing with Ttree salt and hydrogen peroxide (which as you know has an anerobic action) the acupuncturist said once its in the tooth they cannot do anything about it as did the homeopath and so eventually i had a root canal (before i realised how bad that was) and now i have pressure in the gums which means there is infection in the jaw so i am having them out. awful thought but better than the alternative.

a friend of mine had root canals in 8 upper teeth) that caused leisons on the brain and she had fits (you have acupuncture and know about the meridians it was on the pineal line) she has had the teeth removed and dentures fitted although still young (hard decision to loose teeth) and the pressure in her head and the fits have stopped. she is really happy that she did.  another friend also had her teeth root canaled and lost half her jaw. the bacteria in these absesses as you have found out are untreatable (unless you can get someone to use macropages, but only the Russians use that as far as i know). root canal treatment is really dangerous as they cannot kill or get rid of the bacteria and it seeps via the small blood vessles in the gums into the whole body and causes the organs to go soft and even cancer to grow.

for your good health and for your safety have them pulled out, and have bridges put in it really is safer in the llong run.. so sorry i also tried all things and now have to have them out. cost me thousands of our money and i will have to have the bridges too ugh. Good luck i wish there was something i could tell you.

    Re: Gum abscess

The other answers are very good, and yes, you may have to have it pulled. Have you tried Co Q-10? You could try 200 mg for one or two days, then probably go to 200 mg twice a day. you could also take a high quality colloidal silver, up to 7 teaspoons per day, spread out, depending on the brand and instructions. Try to rinse it around the problem tooth for about 30 seconds before swallowing. Then you could also take a good probiotic several times a day (maybe 4-8), but at a different time than the silver. Finally, if you have access to one, you could try an electronic zappicator (applies a good type of magnetic field) on the area several times.

Be sure to let eveyone know what you tried and your results. Good luck.

    Re: Gum abscess

Try using a toothpaste that contains neem. You might have to check a local Indian grocer.

Make up a solution of xylitol as a mouth wash. You should be able to find xylitol in bulk form in the area of the grocery store that carries artificial sweeteners -- although it isn't an artificial sweetner. You can just rinse and spit but it will not hurt you to drink it, although you may have a change in bowel habits if you do.

    Re: Gum abscess

I have had root abscesses for years, successfully treated by root canal treatment, the dentist using an anti-bacterial orange-coloured paste. Antibiotics were also sometimes administered, with slow results. Since then I have occationaly had  lesser forms of abscess BETWEEN the teeth. As an experiment, I have tried a blue powder from my superb Chinese herbalist, (normally I use it for instant disposal of cold sores) & it always cleared this problem rapidly. Last Friday, just after the dentist closed, a root abscess developed in a crowned tooth, my face started to swell, & the painful tooth made eating VERY uncomfortable. In desperation, I applied the powder, & within a couple of days  I could chew easily. Now there only remains a small area of painful tissue, fast vanishing, much quicker than antibiotics, which latter treatment is required in huge doses to get to tooth roots. Like so many Chinese herbal products, surprisingly effective & no side effects. I shall ask the dentist for an X-ray on my next visit, to discover what damage remains.

I asked my herbalist doctor about the product yesterday, & she said the medicants are absorbed through the skin. It is called " kouqiang kuiyang san", available in 3gm tubes for £5.00p or so. I also have a small flexible plastic puffer bottle, which is easily the best application technique. This has "baweixileisan" printed on the box, & contains some of the powder. If obtaining it is difficult, contact Herbal King at 020 86434222 (Sutton), 020 89922228 (Acton) or email: herbalmed@intonet.co.uk, website: www.herbal-king.co.uk .

    Hello there M.White

I notice amongst the responses to your question that 'Marilyn 2' had good results from Homoeopathy, with 'Belladonna' and 'Silica'.

I too have been having a gum infection problem for several days which is responding rapidly to Homoeopathic 'Mercurius Solubilis' 6. (Merc Sol)

I've been using Homoeopathy for over 40 years as a lay person.

    All the best!

    Re: Gum abscess

Thank you everyone for such an abundance of good advice!  I have had problems accessing the wddty site since the first post about salt, so have been trying that.  The dentist gave me corsodyl gel to try and keep it draining, and have been using that as well, making sure I drain it 2-3 times daily, rinsing 3 times with salt water and applying the gel.  It is still draining a little and is now only a small swelling.  I don't know if it is going to disappear or continue to fill and drain, but I will definitely try and find some of the medications recommended because if it keeps filling it is obviously going to be an ongoing problem.

I have heard horror stories of abscesses causing bone disease and if I thought that would happen I would definitely be back to the dentist to have it pulled.  As it seems to be under control, and there is no pain or swelling (apart from the small area which is draining) I'm hoping I've caught it in time.  There is still something there, though, because when I tap the tooth it hurts a little but not enough to notice while eating.

I will persevere with your advice and see what happens.  I've given myself to the end of August to clear it completely, then decide what to do if it is still a problem.

     Many thanks

    Re: Gum abscess

    Hi there

Homeopathy is a good way of getting rid of this abccess, altho if no improvement is seen afetr a week I would go back to the dentist.

Merc Sol 6c is a good remedy to take....one tablet under the tongue....maybe 3 times a day. Just let it dissolve under the tongue. Once improvement is seen STOP taking the tablets! You have then let the body take over the healing.

Or if the pain in the mouth is like a splinter and sharp...then try Nitric Acid maybe 6c or 30c in the same way.

You can also try a mouth wash....Echinachea tincture, 10 drops in water and wash affected area when needed.

If one of these is the right remedy you will see an improvement very quickly.....if not go back to the dentist.....and seek homeopathic treatment from a registered homeopath pronto to help your immune system!

    Hope you feel better soon

    Lesley
