    Radiation to treat large Fibroid

I have had a uterine fibroid removed via a hysteroscopy 6 weeks ago.  However, I have another fibroid about the size of a gratefruit on the outside of my womb.  My wonderful female Gynaecologist wants to avoid a hysterectomy and has suggested using radiation to shrink the blood supply to the 'tumour' i.e. fibroid.  She knows a wonderful radiologist who is a professor, don't know his name, and will recommend him to me if I still am suffering.

My initial symptoms were terrible pain in the back during my periods, which then increased to being the whole of the month.  However, since I had the smaller fibroid removed I have only had half a day of back pain during my period and my bowels are no longer restricted during that time.  If I don't get any more pain the doc is going to leave it for a few months.  However, if the pain returns her suggestion is the radiation.

I would love to hear from anyone who has had this treatment and any information would be gratefully received.

     Many thanks  -  SuzyQ

Re: Radiation to treat large Fibroid

    Hi Suzy

I've not had this condition but in my recent reading about pre-menopause (as I'm coming up to that age :-)) I've come across a lot about using Natural Progesterone cream to treat these types of symptoms, where the results have been very good. I'd suggest doing some research on Google on this subject, as well as buying a book about hormones written by Dr John R Lee in his "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About" series of books. You'll find these on Amazon where I bought my book on the Premenopause. This is not to be confused with synthetic progesterone as the effects are not the same .Improvements were also found in using this cream for painful periods etc. There may be other lifestyle changes you may need to make to improve this condition too, and he talks about these in his books.

I would urge you to buy one of his books :-) as you'll learn a lot of very useful information about women's hormones. The cream is available to buy online so you should be able to get hold of it relatively easily. If your ObGyn is great, then hopefully you'll be able to ask her about this cream as well.

When I get to the menopause, I plan to use Natural Progesterone cream to help me through it, rather than have everything removed as seems to be the conventional treatment for any problems during the menopause.

I hope this is useful and good luck.

    Dear Suzy

Recommend you see a homeopath, they are very good with female problems, fibroids can be shrunk. There can often be some unpleasant repercussions from radiation down the track. You dont say how old you are as to why the Dr prefers radiation to removal of womb...in my mind neither is a good option but I wouldn't do radiation.   Good luck.  Christine

Re: Radiation to treat large Fibroid

    Hi SuzyQ,

Well first thing I would ask you is: have you had any children and how old are you? If I were you I would want to know if the radiation would damage the ovaries and be a cause of birth defects in the future.  If you have not had children and want them, then I suggest you carefully weigh up the risks of radiation against any other treatment. I was wondering if it is possible to cut off the blood supply to the fibroid without using radiation. I thought that blocking the blood supply was possible without using radiation, by tying off the vessels. Are you sure this is indeed a fibroid? Have you had an MRI scan to fully visualise the area? From the back as well the front, as the front area is the only view visible on an ultra sound scan of the uterus.

I assume you are not on HRT or the pill. Estrogen tends to increase the size of  fibroids so coming off any estrogen containing drugs or substances might help shrink this growth.

Another consideration you could put to your gynacologist is the use of natural progesterone cream. I had two fibroids, about 2 cms each, and both shrunk considerably when I used natural progesterone cream. I used it over a period of five months and the ultra sound scan showed significant decrease in size. One almost completely disappeared. So since you have an open minded doctor, perhaps she would consider this worth a try. It really did work for me.

Re: Radiation to treat large Fibroid

    Hi SuzyQ,

The thought of you going through radiation is not a good one however, I know that when you are in pain you will consider and do whatever it takes.

There is a very strong chance that drinking Aloe Vera daily will help with this problem.  Aloe vera drinking gel works from the inside out.  It is a Natural detoxer, cleanser, anti-inflammatory, balances immune system, boosts energy levels and packed full of 75 nutrients. It works at the epithelial level of the skin which includes the internal cavities connecting with it.  It does not cure however, it helps the body to heal itself.

If you do decide to go ahead with Aloe Vera please ensure it is made from inner leaf gel only not the whole leaf.  You would need to take it for at least 3 months possibly 4 to see/feel the full effects.  Although you may experience pain relief within 3 weeks.  It would be good to arrange for an examination at the 3 month stage.

I recommend Forever Living Products Aloe Vera drinking gel as they use inner leaf gel only and a cold stabilisation process so that the Aloe Vera is as close to the gel in the plant as possible.  They also offer a 60 day money back guarantee although in your case I do recommend you take it for at least 3 months.  Drinking Aloe has many other health benefits.  If you would like to view the products please follow the link http://distrib.foreverliving.com/retail/EntryServlet?langID=en&storeID=GBR&distribID=440100124992, you can also order on-line and it will be sent direct to you.

If you are still hoping to conceive then I recommend that once you have reduced the fibroid then consider taking Royal Gelly.

Please do consult with your GP and gynaecologist  before taking these complementary supplements.

If you wish to know anything else please let me know.

    Kind regards,

Re: Radiation to treat large Fibroid

The causes of fibroids include liver congestion, hormone imbalance and low thyroid hormone status.  There is often low T3 but this would not be picked up by the standard blood test performed via your doctor.  There are some specialised enzymes which can break down the fibroids, which in combination with dietary modication, naturopathy and homoeopathy could completely treat this problem.  Fibroids are a systemic problem and they are just a symptom of a deeper imbalance. Radiation would not only be damaging, but it would fail to address the cause thus setting the stage for future problems.  Treatment at symptomatic level is rarely successful.

Re: Radiation to treat large Fibroid

    Hi SuzyQ,

Two years ago I had a client who had two large fibroids in the womb and was advised by her gynacologist to have a hysterectomy,  She was 54. After only 4 treatments of the Bowen Technique and Reiki (over a four week period) the discomfort had diminished considerably and after 3 months both fibroids had shrunk almost completely so that no operation was needed. She followed a non-acid organic diet and practised positive visualisations. Since then she has had no recurrence nor any other gynacological problems.

Re: Radiation to treat large Fibroid

I had the same problem some years ago. I was pregnant at the time and was told I would miscarry, so I went straight to see a homeopath. Two weeks later it had shrunk from a grapefruit to the size of a plum. Two weeks after that it had gone completely and I went full term and delivered a lovely baby boy.

    Good luck,

    Re: Fibroids

    Hey SuzyQ

An old remedy from my naturopath originates from Edgar Casey -You can read books by and about him.  One of the things he believed strongly in was Castor oil.  You don't drink it, you apply it externally.

Among the many qualities castor oil is said to have is its ability to soften underlying tissue, up to three inches deep in the body.  It is usually recommended for ovarian, uterine and breast fibroids.

Apply a good castor oil (from a natural health store, without hexane) to a piece of dry flannel, soaking the flannel over successive applications until it is saturated.  Apply the flannel to the abdomen, cover with a thick plastic and apply a heat source (bean bag pack, hot water bottle, etc.)  Leave in place for 20 - 45 minutes.  Repeat this several times a week or daily for several weeks.  This should soften the cystic tissue and allow the body to eliminate it over the time.  Between applications, put the flannel and plastic into a tupperware container (etc.).  Use for a week or so between washings.  Castor oil is quite thick and a bit sticky, but washes out well.

I use this treatment at night, go to sleep and remove it when I wake to turn in the night.  I just put the heat source by the bed, the flannel into a container and cover it, wipe some of the oil off and go back to sleep.  I have used it for both breast and uterine fibroids over the years, the most recent being a huge uterine  fibroid and was sitting heavily on my bladder.  After several weeks of nightly treatment, it has all but disappeared.  I now follow up several times a week so that it is not tempted to come back.

    Good luck with this.

    Re: Radiation to treat fibroids

I had three large fibroids, approx. 6, 8, 12 cm, and tried all the M.D. recommended treatments (including 'oblation' and except hysterectomy), all to no avail.  Finally found an acupuncturist 3 years ago who was giving 'acupressure' treatments for fibroids.  Treatment required three visits with almost no pain, and the fibroids released and were expelled through the vaginal canal (much like a period) off and on over a period of 4 weeks.  Sonogram showed all fibroids gone.  Have since regrown a small one, but it has presented no problems and will go back in the fall for a final treatment.   Because your remaining one is outside the womb, not sure if this particular acu-pressure procedure will help, but there are other approaches with acupuncture for fibroids.  Would recommend you try less invasive acu-pressure/acupuncture before more surgery or radiation, as the long-term health problems these can cause are tremendous.  Best wishes in your journey and decision.

Re: Radiation to treat large Fibroid

    Dear SusyQ,

As you have noticed from all the replies to your question, everyone is recommending that you not use radiation and I certainly agree.  But just wanted to add that if you have a "Matrix Energetics" practitioner near you, they could also help.  The Matrix Energetics website list the practitioners by state and you can determine if one lives near you.  However, Matrix can also be done remotely (over the phone).

But most assuredly, don't do the radiation!

    Sincerely,

    Jeannie

    SuzyQ,

The email address I gave to learn about alternative treatments for fibroids was incorrect. The correct address is fibroidsetc.com
