    vitamin D 1, 25-Dihydroxy

I had a blood test done to check my level of vitamin D 1, 25-Dihydroxy.  The results showed that I have a high level (86 pg/ML).  The normal level is 15-75 pg/mL.  I also had a 24-hour urine test that showed that I am urinating out way too much calcium (probably all of it).  I have unhealthy bones and have osteopenia.  I've tried to look up the role that vitamin D 1, 25-Dihydroxy plays in bone health.  The information for Vitamin D 25 hydroxy is pretty clear but the information for vitamin D 1, 25-Dihydroxy is really hard to understand.  Can anyone give me a clear explanation of the role of vitamin D 1, 25-Dihydroxy?  What does it do? - Linda in Georgia

    Re: vitamin D 1, 25-Dihydroxy

    Linda,

Calcium is removed from the blood and deposited in your bones by the hormone CALCITONIN which is produced by the Parathyroid Gland.

The Parathyroid also produces PARATHORMONE which causes calcium to transfer from bones to the blood.

Have you had the levels of these hormones checked?

Have you had your Thyroid function checked?

An unhealthy Thyroid will not produce the correct balance of these hormones.

Here is a simple Thyroid test you can do yourself...It's called The Barnes Basal Temperature Test:

First thing in the morning, before getting out of bed,put a thermometer under your armpit and leave it there for ten minutes and stay in bed...

After ten minutes read it and note the result...

    Repeat on three consecutive mornings...

For best results avoid doing the test during menstrual cycle...

If your temp is consistently between 36.4 to 36.8 Celsius or 97.8 to 98.2 Fahrenheit your Thyroid is working ok...

If it's below that temp you need to find a Doctor who will prescribe you NATURAL thyroid medication...Armour thyroid and other such porcine, dessicated thyroid hormones are the best as they contain all 9 required hormones naturally...AVOID synthetic versions as they CAUSE Osteoporosis.

    There are some things you can do to support your Thyroid;

1 The Peruvian root vegetable MACA supports thyroid health.

    2.Remove all mercury tooth fillings.

    3.Avoid ALL SOY products.

4.Eliminate ALL GRAINS from your diet.

    5.Avoid cabbage,turnips,cauliflower,mustard greens,kale,millet,brussel sprouts,walnuts,peanuts,radishes.

6.Avoid ALL polyunsaturated oils...use COCONUT OIL instead which supports the thyroid.

    7.Avoid ALL processed sugar.

    8.Avoid ALL sodas.

You may also have ADRENAL FATIGUE...there is a great book called Adrenal Fatigue,The 21st Century Stress Syndrome by James Wilson.

I also recommend Take Control of Your Life and Escape The Sickness Industry by Elaine Hollingsworth which is where I got the thyroid info from.

Sorry I haven't answered the actual question you asked but I think you are looking in the wrong place for the answer to your health problem.
