    Oral lichen planus

A reader’s father has been diagnosed with oral lichen planus – a mouth rash that typically appears as patches of fine white lines and dots.  It is extremely sore and painful for him at times.  Conventional treatments have failed to bring relief.  Do readers know of any natural remedies that might cure or at least sooth the condition?

According to Norene, your father should first be tested to rule out underlying disease and other possible causes.  Lichen planus is often related to an impaired immune system, hormones or blood sugar, she says.  She recommends eliminating sugar and starch from the diet and eating less fruit.  Also, try drinking and gargling with red raspberry leaf tea combined with bayberry.  (However, bayberry is an emetic in large doses so don’t use too much.)  Finally, take plant antibiotic LDM-100, an extract of wild black carrot that is good for any type of infection.  If a something stronger is required, Norene recommends adding Allimed capsules, which contain a high dose of standardised garlic extract, and taking these for about three months.

Another reader reckons mercury fillings could cause oral lichen planus, and recommends having them replaced with mercury-free alternatives.  Consult a holistic dentist for further advice.

A simpler option, however, is to try using colloidal silver as a mouthwash.  One reader had been suffering from oral lichen planus for years, but it cleared up almost immediately after he tried this natural antibiotic.  Use the mouthwash first thing in the morning and last thing at night, he advises.

I had the same condition for years, and finally I was able to control it by using colloidal silver as a mouthwash. Try this as the first thing in the morning and the last thing before going to bed. For myself it helped almost immediately.

    Re: Oral lichen planus

Hi, I am a homeopath.  I successfully treated a delightful elderly patient with this condition.  It was her constitutional remedy that stimulated her immune system to sort it.  I think it is a condition that needs to be treated holistically and not suppressed with a mouth wash.

    Re: Oral lichen planus

First, try and avoid treatments which will 'suppress' the condition (magically make them better) as it will simply reappear somewhere else, worse.  As a homeopath I've treated lichen planus effectively by identifying what the causative factor was (i.e. a trauma of some description up to 5 years before the onset of the condition) and addressing that.  I also cleansed the body homeopathically of the very toxic pharmaceutical drugs prescribed for it.  A further part of the process is to identify how the body reacts to stress (i.e. by 'doing' certain kinds of disease) and reducing its tendency, again by homeopathic remedies.  Find a competent, practical homeopath and get some treatment but also look to your lifestyle and reduce toxins and stress as much as possible.

    Re: Oral lichen planus

    Hi Louisa,

I have been suffering from oral and vaginal lichen planus for last 4 years. Right now I am using antibiotics and estrogen cream and cortizone with anti bacterial and anti fungal cream on my vaginal, and I see that there is improvement. But for my oral, I am not using anything.

Please let me know, what homeopathy medicines would improve my conditions. I would like to see permanent cure.

    Appreciate your reply and feedback..

    Regards,

    Sarojini
