    Creatine

I've read that taking creatine can lead to kidney problems in older people.  Does anyone know if that is true & what age range is "older people" in this case?

    Re: Creatine

Creatine supplements are man made and highly processed and are therefore inferior to creatine found in organic beef, for example.

I have heard problems may occur if plenty of water is not consumed with the creatine.

The question arises "Why are older people taking creatine"?

I assume older people are taking creatine to boost muscle size, strength and energy.

If this is the case I suggest a better way:

Eat REAL organic, fresh food to one's metabolic type.

Get to bed by 10pm latest

Get up no sooner than 6am

    Drink enough water

    Walk 20 mins a day

    Get adequate sunlight exposure

Get out in nature as much as possible

Adopting the above will help older people far more than creatine ever will.

    Re: Creatine

Thanks for that.  I'm a 61 year old with a slim build & regularly train with weights at a gym in order to 'bulk up' a bit.  I was about to start taking creatine & then read a brief note in a magazine that it could lead to kidney problems in older people - hence my question.

    Re: Creatine

On the back of the creatine packets it will state that the product should not be used by anyone with any sort of kidney problems.

This is probably a legal thing they have to put on there to cover their arses should something occur.

I used creatine powder about 5 yrs ago...it was VERY expensive...I gained 5lbs in a couple of weeks and that was about it...as soon as I stopped the creatine I lost the weight.

It works by forcing water either into or between the muscle cells,I can't remember which, this increases muscle size and supposedly strength which allows you to lift heavier and thus gain muscle.

As with everything different people can react in different ways to the same food/supplement so until you try you can't be sure it will work for you.

Buy Paul Chek's book "HOW TO EAT,MOVE AND BE HEALTHY" and follow his advice for at least 6 months...it's much cheaper than creatine and a lot healthier!!!
