My 56yr old husband has had diarrhoea since January and eventually went to visit the doctor at Easter. Doctor said he could be lactose intolerant, but cutting out lactose did not help. Next the doctor said he might be wheat/gluten intolerant so he cut that out but to no avail. He's had a blood test and we were told it was all normal, although we don't know specifically what was tested for. Husband has also had negative test for bowel cancer (they routinely screen over 50's in our area). I have bought him a well known brand of probiotics and he's started to take one each day. He's now got an appointment for colonoscopy. The only other bit of information that might be relevant is that in November he started on a diet, involving eating a bowl of cereal for breakfast and lunch, and normal food in the evening. He added lots of fruit to the cereal in the morning, and at lunch also ate a large plain salad, evening meal was generally low fat, chicken or fish, with lots of veg and potato, pasta or rice. He's stuck to this diet since then, apart from as above, and has lost about two stone, feeling good and with more energy, No vomiting at all or feeling bloated etc, just diarrhoea two or three times a day. I am wondering if anyone has any ideas what else we could try, or what might be the cause of the problem?
