    Taste of salt in mouth

I am getting over a severe lung virus, which began in my sinuses last December.

Having progressed through dry naso-pharynx and split tongue, digestive problems, and cough, I am now experiencing a strong taste of SALT in my mouth, even though I have lost my smell and taste over the past two weeks.    This is very distressing - has anyone any ideas please ?

It is not just a slight salty taste, but as if I am battling with the contents of whole bag of salt !

Zinc deficiency can cause these symptoms, and also affect your immune system. Rather than dosing yourself up with it however, I would suggest seeing a nutritional therapist who would look at your diet and symptoms as a whole.

Find an Upledger Cranial Therapist who does 'mouth work' -

you will find that by releasing the naso-pharyngeal and mouth sutures that this taste will lessen or disappear altogether.

Maybe you should check your kidney, and consult a TCM doctor.

Re: Taste of salt in mouth

It seems that there is some relationship with this salt taste to your kidneys, and lack of smell and taste could be to due to a lack of Zinc.

Also with the crack in your tongue, make sure you are drinking plenty of water, as the kidneys are your water organs.

I hope you look into this and let me know how you get on.

    Kind regards

Re: Taste of salt in mouth

I have just treated someone for exactly the same symptoms and she was suffering from stones in her salivary glands which would block the natural flow from the ducts - allowing only a very strong taste of salt through. She had swellings in her jaw line / neck area, just below the ear on one side. Do you have this?  She found that on massaging these swellings she would get a spurt of very strong salt taste in her mouth, followed by a short period of relief.

She suffered with this for years and eventually came to see me in my Homeopathic practice. I have treated her twice now, but after the first treatment she reported an enormous difference. The swelling had gone down, the lumps softened and the taste of salt completely gone.

I can't recommend a remedy for you to take as each case is treated individually - but maybe you should find a homeopath.

    Hullo from Edinburgh
I had a dreadful reaction to one Ibroprufen tablet and the next day I woke up with a salty mouth.
This is just a thought  - but my ex-GP said that Ibroprufen can send your blood pressure up... so I asked myself if somehow raised blood pressure pushed salt out into the the body and was tasted in the mouth.
I am drinking 1/2 a glass of water every half an hour and avoiding salt completely and it might be a good idea to check blood pressure.
