    phantom limb pains and itchiness

My friend has had a below-knee amputation 5 months ago. She is troubled with severe phantom  pains and itching where her lower leg once was. Doctors have put her onto tablets which do help but the side effects have stopped her from using them. I understand that the phantom sensations have to do with the Etheric lower leg but can anyone suggest a treatment to rid her of these sensations.

    Many thanks

    Anne

As a Bowen Therapist I have heard people treating this condition using Bowen technique. But I can honestly say I have never tried it

     All the best

Try InterX therapy it is electrical pulsing neurostimulation, successful in many cases.

Re: phantom limb pains and itchiness

My little brother had his right leg amputated directly above the knee when he was sixteen. When it began to itch, he would ask me to scratch it for him. I do not know scientifically why, but it always worked.  I believe the energy is still there and the cure is what it once was.

I'm sorry about the leg amputation,

    Diane

Re: phantom limb pains and itchiness

    Anne,

I am a Healing Touch practitioner and instructor and we learn how to work with this from the very first class!
As the body is energy, energy flows through the whole of the 'person', who is more than just physical.  Working to include the
missing limb is essential.  Ask any body or energy worker to include the leg that is no longer there (on the physical). We have had GREAT success
eliminating pain and itching in the moment and over time, altogether.

Doctors in Germany have been using Alpha lipoic acid to repair diabetic neuropathy for over thirty years. I have even seen it work on sciatic nerve pain. Start with a low potency, it has a sugar balancing effect also.

Re: phantom limb pains and itchiness

You MUST read this book called "Phantoms in the Brain" by V. S. Ramachandran. He is a leading neurologist and explains how when an area of the body is amputated, the area of the brain which would have receieved sensations from the amputated part do not simply stop being used but start to get sensations from the neighbouring parts of the brain. He can explain it far better than I can, but apart from being a fascinating read and very accessible to the layman, he had many years of experience in dealing with phantom pain. I am sure you will be able to find a solution. Good luck......

I have learned that Phantom pain is an energetic phenomena as opposed to physical and so needs to be addressed at the energetic level. I would suggest seaking out an experienced energetic worker

Re: phantom limb pains and itchiness

Pages 31-34 of Donna Eden's marvelous book Energy Medicine deals with this problem and explains through a case history what needs to be done to rid the body of pain and itching.
Donna, who was born with the ability to see the human energy fields, explains that even though limbs have been severed, the body's meridians are still intact and energy is still flowing through them. Pain and itching is caused by this energy being blocked. To relieve it the bladder, kidney and liver pressure points on the severed limb need to be held.

    Hope this helps

Homeopathically Hypericum is the remedy that has traditionally cured this problem. See a Registered Classical homeopath.

Re: phantom limb pains and itchiness

I heard that using a mirror to reflect the existing leg to the place where the missing leg is can work. I think you then reach out to the reflection. I don't remember where I saw this but maybe someone else knows. Google perhaps. It is the brain that has not convinced itself that the leg is missing so the mirror can be used to trick the brain and gradually convince it that the leg is gone. Sorry to be vague, but I have 2 legs and didn't really take much notice of this theory other than to note that it sounded scientific and plausable

I am studying classical homeopathy and would also recommend Hypericum., and to get a consultation from a 'classical homoeapath'. It really is amazing and does work.  Good luck

Re: phantom limb pains and itchiness

I am a certified homeopath in the USA.  Your friend should absolutely consider homeopathy for her condition.  Homeopathy is one of the "energy medicines" that is thought to work via the subtle energies of the body, so it is well suited to these kinds of problems. Other posts have mentioned Hypericum as a possible remedy, but you should be aware that there are many more homeopathic remedies that can treat this condition, depending on the whole picture of your friend's symptoms (physical, mental and emotional).  So definitely go and find an experienced classical homeopath.
