    Blood surges in the head

I am suffering from episodes, happening on first waking, which feel as though blood is surging in my head from the back (occipital region) round to the sides near the ears. I've also had a near blackout. It's painless but worrying since my mother died of a stroke and I wonder if these attacks are transient ischaemic attacks. I have normal blood pressure, high cholesterol and am an otherwise fit  65 year old woman. My GP says it's psychological! Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I have to say I get the same and have done for a few years. I also get the surging sometimes when I get up from sitting. I have tried taking my BP at these times and it is normal. The surges last for up to 30 seconds. I ignore them as like you I am fit!! Sorry I can't offer any suggestions other than ignore it. Mine may have started when my blood pressure was high but now it is normal. Personally I put it down to catarrh in my sinuses. I am on no medication and I presume you are not.

I have a similar thing that I have found is relieved when I visit my Cranial Oesteopath who realigns my spine, skull & jaw.  One GP said psychological, one said muscular, my acupuncturist didn't speak english (so still no diagnosis), but he did alleviate the problem until I moved.

I have found it is further reduced when I do the following; Ensure I have an appropriately sized pillow, drink green barley grass & Vit C non acidic, every morning, drink 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (organic) in a small glass of water at least twice a day with or without honey(organic) & pure water according to thirst (too much water can make mine worse).  I don't know what medications you are taking, so you may want to check with your health care provider.

On a completely different level, I often dreamed I was in far away places and the symptoms were worse after a big night on the astral plane.  If this is something that resonates with you then tell yourself to stay home before you go to sleep, put a shield, metaphorically, over your bed so your astral body can't leave, and see if it still happens. I did this for a week before I noticed any change.  Another thing I do is reassure myself that I have all the capabilities I need to effectively handle whatever comes along in my life and visualise a healthy fully functional vascular system.

Re: Blood surges in the head

I have had this on numerous occasions and I personaly link my to low blood pressure. Sounds strange I know but I have passed out upon wakening and then I have come back around and all is well. I have had heart tests and they all came back normal.

Good luck to you and get that cholesterol under control.  Are you on any medication for the high cholestrol?  There is a web site that might interest you ...have a look and see what they have to offer for the cholesterol levels. Barring your not on a medication for it.  Otherwise, cunsolt your GP.
