Hi everyone, hope you can help. What I need to know is if there is anything I can give my mum to support her after her harsh treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia. She was diagnosed at the end of August and has just finished her 3rd cycle of chemo. She is due for a bone marrow transplant in Jan (her sister is a perfect match) and although this is a scary prospect, the chances of her surviving without it are very slim so we have decided to go ahead. She is 59 years old, slim, non-smoker and has no other medical problems.
I have been giving her the herb Marshmallow throughout (after much resistance from the doctors) and I believe this has prevented many of the side effects chemo can cause.
However, at the moment, she is neutropenic (no immune system) and she has developed a chest infection for which she is getting antibiotics and I just wondered if there was anything else I could do to help get rid of it. I suspect there may not be, but I thought it was worth asking.
Thanks for reading and anything you can suggest would be much appreciated..... Monica
