    Oral lichen planus

A reader’s father has been diagnosed with oral lichen planus – a mouth rash that typically appears as patches of fine white lines and dots.  It is extremely sore and painful for him at times.  Conventional treatments have failed to bring relief.  Do readers know of any natural remedies that might cure or at least sooth the condition?

According to Norene, your father should first be tested to rule out underlying disease and other possible causes.  Lichen planus is often related to an impaired immune system, hormones or blood sugar, she says.  She recommends eliminating sugar and starch from the diet and eating less fruit.  Also, try drinking and gargling with red raspberry leaf tea combined with bayberry.  (However, bayberry is an emetic in large doses so don’t use too much.)  Finally, take plant antibiotic LDM-100, an extract of wild black carrot that is good for any type of infection.  If a something stronger is required, Norene recommends adding Allimed capsules, which contain a high dose of standardised garlic extract, and taking these for about three months.

Another reader reckons mercury fillings could cause oral lichen planus, and recommends having them replaced with mercury-free alternatives.  Consult a holistic dentist for further advice.

A simpler option, however, is to try using colloidal silver as a mouthwash.  One reader had been suffering from oral lichen planus for years, but it cleared up almost immediately after he tried this natural antibiotic.  Use the mouthwash first thing in the morning and last thing at night, he advises.
