    Re: biphosphonates and strontium ranelate

Any drug available on the market has to have clinical evidence of its effectiveness. And any pharmaceutical drug will produce side effects (especially on long-term use).

Bisphosphonates may cause upper gastrointestinal disorders, such as dysphagia, esophagitis, esophageal ulcer, and gastric ulcer.

Strontium ranelate (Protelos) is becoming more popular for treatment of osteoporosis, but not recommended for people with impaired renal function. Strontium malonate is on its way to the market, and I belive there are strontium dietary supplements (strontium citrate) now available as strontium exists naturally in a form of stable mineral in soil, foods and bones.

    Hope it helps.
