    Stroke pain

My wife had a stroke over 14 years ago in her 40's and still suffers badly from stroke pain. At the time there was no cure for this and she was left to her own devices. Her left arm and down the left side of her face are in constant pain and she has little control over her left arm movement. Over the years has there been any progress on reducing post stroke pain or are we still at square one?

    Re: Stroke pain

Your wife may benefit from The Bowen Technique.  This treatment works over fascia, is very gentle and allows the body to heal itself. Be patient with the treatments, you may get results very early but it may take several treatments to get the required results. The Bowen Technique works very well if the treatments are given very soon following the stroke (within hours) for others we just have to persevere slowly but surely.

    Hullo Norman
I was a traditional physiotherapist but following a car accident and a lack of progress with my injuries investigated alternative therapies in order to get at least part of my original quality of life back again.
I agree with the Bio-Flow gentleman - magnets can help.  It was a magnetic collar that eased the pain in my "stuck" neck by improving the circulation.
Poor circulation can create pain. Then the weight of the hemiplegic arm dragging down at the neck will add to the pain. Posture and the positioning of the neck and arm are important too ...
I joined the Association of Chartered Physiotherapists in Bio-Energy Therapies ( in another post I called them ...Alternative Therapies but they changed the name) You could phone up the Charted Society of Physiotherapy and ask them for the member nearest to you, from whom you could get more details of practitioners.
The Alternative physios include Acupuncturists, Reiki practitioners, Aromatherapists, Reflexlogists..........Bowen Technique practitioners ...and many more.
I think it is high time the Medical profession suggested to their patients that Complementary Therapies can help when the practitioner is properly trained and a member of the appropriate association - instead of which one comes up against a brick wall as you have done!
Email me directly if you want to  - I have used with good effect Homeopathy for my energy, Acupuncture for the pain, Aromatherapy to help with energy and muscle spasm, the magnets for my rigid neck and energy generally, nutrition, reflexology and a great deal of healing and electro crystal therapy (Harry Oldfield) for my stressed out brain after the accident.

Hello, try Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). It would take considerable time to describe it, but information is readily available on the web.

It seems to have helped people in diverse areas of health afflictions, and is a simple tapping and affirmation exercise that one can either perform oneself, or with the help of a certified practitioner.

    Regards,

    Jay

    Re: Stroke pain

Dr. Omelchuk, of the College of Family Physicians of Canada, practitioner of medicine for 25 years, suffered a debilitating stoke (which nearly killed him). After surgery and rehabilitation, he was a total invalid and could not talk or walk. 7 years later he was still severely limited in his ability to think and work. He suffered from unrelenting pain. He attributes his total recovery to glyconutritionals and is now teaching and lecturing about this new field of research. I heard him lecture in 2006 in my community. You might like to check out the following link: http://www.healinglamp.com/glyconutrients-testimonials.htm which is several noted physicians speaking about their experience with glyconutritionals. Dr. Alex Omelchuk is 9th or 10th in that lineup.

Glyconutritionals are available for purchase from the following site: www.mannapages.com/mlbush. The brand name is: Ambrotose, it comes in a powdered and capsule form. Because it is nutrition which is lacking from our modern diet due to processing and agricultural practices, most of us need it and those of us who are severely depleted have (a lack of) healing experiences like your wife's.

I would be glad to talk or email with you about this product and definitely would like to hear the results if you decide to try this nutritional supplement. There is much sound science to back up the claims being made about this product.

    Re: Stroke pain

Hi there,  I am really sorry to hear about your wife's pain, it must be very distressing.  Have you thought about trying energy healing?  I work with Crystals and Reiki and feel that they could help considerably.  Any energy healing would be beneficial, go with your intuition and keep trying different things and practitioners until something works for you.

    Take care

    Re: Stroke pain

Trans Cerebral Magnetic Stimulation has been reported by Mayo Clinic and Columbia University to help in this condition although more specifically for depression as a replacement for ECT. Portable homeuse version is available at http://www.biophysica.com/tms.htm
