I was diagnosed with H Pylori (Helicobactor) 6 months ago and given the usual triple treatment by the doctor (2 courses of antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitator). Unfortunately I still don't feel well with pain in my gullet and finding it hard to get a deep breath at times. I have acid coming up my throat and yet I still take the acid blocking tablets Lansoprazole. These are not advisable to take long term and I don;t know where to turn, I did approach my doctor but was told to stop fixating on the H Pylori and to keep taking the acid blockers. Anyone out there had better advice they can share.

H Pylori lives in the mucosal lining of the stomach where most
anti-biotics can't reach it. The colonies weaken the mucous and make it
possible for stomach acids to get through to the stomach wall leading
to ulcers. One unusual but highly effective therapy is to use bright UV
light in the INSIDE of the stomach. Obviously you will have to get your
doctor to help you with this...good luck. The light kills the bacteria
outright and doesn't harm any thing else. An alternative is to
use broccoli seed sprouts. Don't use seeds from garden packets as most
of those have been treated with fungicides. Find a source for organic
seeds or buy them already sprouted. The substance that is good for
getting rid of H Pylori peaks on the 3rd day after germination. It is
better, and far cheaper, to sprout them yourself for this reason. As
for the stomach acid, try eating arugula. Put it in salads, sandwiches,
or just munch on it. I have no idea why it works but know of many
people who have been helped by it. Try it. It will either work for you
or it won't. Would be interested in hearing a follow up post
though.

Citricidal is good for this (grapefruit seed extract), taking a few drops in a glass of water (suggested doses range from 5 drops three times a day to 15 drops three times a day) also a drop on your toothbrush and clean your nose with a diluted solution. This has worked for me. Organic cider vinegar is another natural remedy. The best cider vinegar looks a bit murky and is unfiltered. Dilute in water with or without honey. Take a good quality probiotic, The Friendy Trio, Enerex is one which has had good results for me.

Hi Arlene Here are a few suggestions for you to try and look into - first Olive Leaf Extract, which is said to sort out viruses, bacteria and fungal infections etc. A good supplier for this is Regenerative Nutrition (www.regenerativenutrition.com ). Also, Barberry is especially reputed to 'sort out' the H. Pylori 'bug'. To soothe and aid your acid-reflux and digestion, I would recommend marshmallow and slippery elm. There is a very good company called 'Herbs Hands Healing' which can be found at - www.herbshandshealing.co.uk , they supply lots of good quality herbal tinctures for a host of conditions and they have also a very good health advice service. I hope this helps! Best Wishes! Tina

I managed to get rid of chronic heartburn, indigestion and gastritis by taking 2 grams of mastic gum everyday for two months, as recommended by Dr Jacob Teitelbaum in his article at https://secure.endfatigue.com/tools-support/Eliminating-Chronic-Acid-Reflux-And-Indigestion.html. I suffered from this condition on and off for five years, and had tried just about every medication and natural remedy without much success. I continue to take a 500 mg mastic gum capsule daily as a preventative, even though I am now totally symptom-free and can eat anything at any time. Mastic gum is a natural resin only produced in Greece, which has been used as a stomach remedy for thousands of years. It is sold in the UK under the brand name Mastika, it can be found at Holland & Barret and on the Internet at http://www.burstingwithhealth.co.uk/. I do not recommend ordering it from outside of the UK, it may be cheaper, but the quality is not always the same. DGL liquorice is also helpful, as stated by Dr Teitelbaum. Antacids and acid blockers are actually worse over the long term, they modify the acid-producing cells in the stomach and can lead to other problems such as osteoporosis and nutritional deficiencies. It takes a few days to start noticing the effect of the mastic gum, and the improvement is gradual over the two month period. It is not exactly known how mastic gum works, but the fact is that it does work. It appears that the pharmaceutical companies are not overly enthusiastic about this alternative remedy, as would be expected.

According to medical statistics, 93% of stomach ulcer cases world-wide are caused by H.pylori infection. This bacteria is of a spiral shape and possesses a proton pump, i.e. is capable to generate the acid itself. The spiral shape allows this bacteria to hide itself within the mucus layers of the stomach. That's why the treatment is not always successful. I would suggest asking your GP for H.pylori breath test which involves digestion of urea with carbon-13 isotope to check whether the infection is still present and then repeat the course of antibiotics if necessarily. If the problem persists, it might be worth considering checking upon hiatus hernia or anaemia. I've heard that people with antibiotics intolerances tried to treat this infection using Pau D'Arco capsules, but as H.pylori tends to reside within pyloric valve between bottom of the stomach and duodenum, using methylcellulose type of such capsules will be ineffective as the content will only be released in the colon, while you need it to happen in the stomach. Anyway, H.pylori infection is one of the few cases that are handled very well by NHS, so why not use it ? Alla Cranham, MSc ABMT, DHtox
