    H Pylori

I was diagnosed with H Pylori (Helicobactor) 6 months ago and given the usual triple treatment by the doctor (2 courses of antibiotics and a proton pump inhibitator).  Unfortunately I still don't feel well with pain in my gullet and finding it hard to get a deep breath at times.  I have acid coming up my throat and yet I still take the acid blocking tablets Lansoprazole.  These are not advisable to take long term and I don;t know where to turn, I did approach my doctor but was told to stop fixating on the H Pylori and to keep taking the acid blockers.  Anyone out there had better advice they can share.

    Re: H Pylori

First I would suggest getting another test to see if the H Pylori has gone away. If it has maybe you have a hiatus hernia and need to check that out. See a good nutritionist for advise and eat a less acidic diet and have more alkali foods, like pineapple instead of orange. Eat little and often. Carry on trying to find the reason for this discomfort.

    Re: H Pylori

H Pylori lives in the mucosal lining of the stomach where most anti-biotics can't reach it. The colonies weaken the mucous and make it possible for stomach acids to get through to the stomach wall leading to ulcers. One unusual but highly effective therapy is to use bright UV light in the INSIDE of the stomach. Obviously you will have to get your doctor to help you with this...good luck. The light kills the bacteria outright and doesn't harm any thing else.

An alternative is to use broccoli seed sprouts. Don't use seeds from garden packets as most of those have been treated with fungicides. Find a source for organic seeds or buy them already sprouted. The substance that is good for getting rid of H Pylori peaks on the 3rd day after germination. It is better, and far cheaper, to sprout them yourself for this reason.

As for the stomach acid, try eating arugula. Put it in salads, sandwiches, or just munch on it. I have no idea why it works but know of many people who have been helped by it. Try it. It will either work for you or it won't. Would be interested in hearing a follow up post though.

    Re: H Pylori

The problem is that H Pylori tends to take hold in people with low stomach acid, therefore acid blockers can in the long term perpetuate the problem, plus of course the acid is necessary for proper digestion and absorption of nutrients.  I would make it a priority to find a good nutritional therapist registered with BANT.  To help symptoms, go for simple non fatty foods in small portions, like salad with steamed fish and boiled potatoes for example .  Do not eat too much fruit, alcohol and let hot drinks cool down a bit.  Try to buy some reputable probiotics from an independent health food store to recolinate the gut with friendly (H Pylori killing) bacteria.

    Re: H Pylori

Stop taking the acid blocker that does not stop acid---what does are pancreatic enzymes.  There is a product called Megazyme by Enzymatic Therapy-- it works wonders helping digest food and stop acid.  Next get a product called Complete Probiotics-- sold by the website Mercola.com.  Dr. Mercola is a Chicago based doc who is brilliant at improving health conditions with natural methods.  Between the probiotics to eat up the H.Pylori or what's left of it and the enzymes to help digestion you will feel a lot better!!

    Re: H Pylori

Citricidal is good for this (grapefruit seed extract), taking a few drops in a glass of water (suggested doses range from 5 drops three times a day to 15 drops three times a day)  also a drop on your toothbrush and clean your nose with a diluted solution. This has worked for me.

Organic cider vinegar is another natural remedy.  The best cider vinegar looks a bit murky and is unfiltered.  Dilute in water with or without honey.

Take a good quality probiotic, The Friendy Trio, Enerex is one which has had good results for me.

    Re: H Pylori

Acid indigestion is always about incorrect eating...wrong foods and wrong combinations, eating at the wrong time and eating when we are not hungry. The gastric juices are unable to digest all the food eaten or the wrong combination of foods and so ferment and this builds up as acid.  Helicobacter only causes problems when the conditions in the stomach are favourable for its growth. There is already an environment caused by the incorrect eating.  The beta blockers don't treat the condition because they further prevent proper digestion by blocking acid....the good acid as well that is needed for digestion so once you start taking those you are into a downward spiral.  This is long term treatment and there are  no magic potions.  You have to be disciplined about your eating and you need to detox your system.  This isn't the place to give the details but  learn about ayurveda an in the meantime avoid foods that are fermented/scidic like alchohol, vinegar, cheese, youghurt, tomatoes, citric fruit and indeed all fruit until the acid goes.  Also hot spicy food and salt.  See www.pukkaherbs.com  or any other ayurvedic site and they will tell you about vata, pitta and kapha and what in details you need to do but I would advise you to see an  ayurvedic practitioner in your area. See www.apa.uk.com  According to Ayurveda all disease starts in the digestive system and if you don't balance what is going on there the toxins that are in the gut will eventually move out and cause disease elsewhere so this is your body telling you to take note and look deeply at your health while the imbalance is still confined. Hi Arlene

Here are a few suggestions for you to try and look into - first Olive Leaf Extract, which is said to sort out viruses, bacteria and fungal infections etc. A good supplier for this is Regenerative Nutrition (www.regenerativenutrition.com ).  Also, Barberry is especially reputed to 'sort out' the H. Pylori 'bug'.

To soothe and aid your acid-reflux and digestion, I would recommend marshmallow and slippery elm.

There is a very good company called 'Herbs Hands Healing' which can be found at - www.herbshandshealing.co.uk , they supply lots of good quality herbal tinctures for a host of conditions and they have also a very good health advice service.

    I hope this helps!

    Best Wishes!

    Tina

    Re: H Pylori

H.pylorii is often seen in patients with duodenal ulcer but strangely of the 95% with h.pylorii present only around 15% go on to develop a duodenal ulcer.  The conclusion: it is a symptom of the condition but is not the causal factor. The duodenum is part of the digestive tract. It's function is dependent upon its synchronised activity which ensures that bile from the gall bladder is introduced with the passage of food. If introduced too early or too late this leads to some fo the following conditions including e.g. acid reflux, indigestion, constipation, build-up of wind, flatulence and diarrhea. The issue is one of the synchronised function of the SYSTEM and not necessarily of an individual biochemical process. We suggest processes which can be used to re-establish the body's natural function e.g. exercise or Virtual Scanning therapy.

    Re: H Pylori

I managed to get rid of chronic heartburn, indigestion and gastritis by taking 2 grams of mastic gum everyday for two months, as recommended by Dr Jacob Teitelbaum in his article at https://secure.endfatigue.com/tools-support/Eliminating-Chronic-Acid-Reflux-And-Indigestion.html. I suffered from this condition on and off for five years, and had tried just about every medication and natural remedy without much success. I continue to take a 500 mg mastic gum capsule daily as a preventative, even though I am now totally symptom-free and can eat anything at any time. Mastic gum is a natural resin only produced in Greece, which has been used as a stomach remedy for thousands of years. It is sold in the UK under the brand name Mastika, it can be found at Holland & Barret and on the Internet at http://www.burstingwithhealth.co.uk/. I do not recommend ordering it from outside of the UK, it may be cheaper, but the quality is not always the same. DGL liquorice is also helpful, as stated by Dr Teitelbaum. Antacids and acid blockers are actually worse over the long term, they modify the acid-producing cells in the stomach and can lead to other problems such as osteoporosis and nutritional deficiencies. It takes a few days to start noticing the effect of the mastic gum, and the improvement is gradual over the two month period. It is not exactly known how mastic gum works, but the fact is that it does work. It appears that the pharmaceutical companies are not overly enthusiastic about this alternative remedy, as would be expected.

    Re: H Pylori

According to medical statistics, 93% of stomach ulcer cases world-wide are caused by H.pylori infection. This bacteria is of a spiral shape and possesses a proton pump, i.e. is capable to generate the acid itself. The spiral shape allows this bacteria to hide itself within the mucus layers of the stomach. That's why the treatment is not always successful. I would suggest asking your GP for H.pylori breath test which involves digestion of urea with carbon-13 isotope to check whether the infection is still present and then repeat the course of antibiotics if necessarily. If the problem persists, it might be worth considering checking upon hiatus hernia or anaemia. I've heard that people with antibiotics intolerances tried to treat this infection using Pau D'Arco capsules, but as H.pylori tends to reside within pyloric valve between bottom of the stomach and duodenum, using methylcellulose type of such capsules will be ineffective as the content will only be released in the colon, while you need it to happen in the stomach. Anyway, H.pylori infection is one of the few cases that are handled very well by NHS, so why not use it ?

    Hi Arlene,

You would probably find Bio-Ex therapy helpful. It is always successful in treating H. pylori and C. pylori infections. From your symptoms, however, it sounds as though you may have a hiatus hernia (as well). Having had 2 courses of antibiotics, you may well have candidal overgrowth by now; Bio-Ex can successfully treat this also.

    Re: H Pylori

    Hi Arlene,

Manuka Honey is said to gently and effectively remove H Pylori. The most active Manuka Honey is batch-tested and graded on a scale called UMF (Ultimate Manuka Factor) +5, +10, +15.  I recently met a woman (from the UK) who cured her H Pylori using Manuka Honey +10, taking a little each day over about a two month period. Manuka (Red Tea Tree, Leptospermum scparium) is native to New Zealand. Active Manuka Honey is used in some UK hospitals (applied topically) to cure skin ulcers, bed sores, and to aid/speed up wound healing. Balancing your digestive system is another matter about which there have been some excellent posts.
