    Chronic fatigue syndrome

A reader’s brother has recently been diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).  Does anyone have experience of this condition and are there any effective drug-free treatments, she asks?

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

Magnesium is good for fatigue.  Don't bother with Magnesium Oxide (not well absorbed) but go for more bioavailable versions.

Also investigate "The Lightning Process"  - there was an article about it in the Daily Mail a few months ago.

And see 'action for M.E.'  www.afme.org.uk set up by an ME sufferer who recovered by using natural methods.

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

The most important thing for him at this stage is that he gets plenty of rest.  If he pushes himself it will only lengthen the time that he is ill, and even on a good day he should only do 50% of what he feels capable of.  Take whatever steps are necessary to get good quality sleep and plenty of it - there are many herbs that will help, including valerian, passiflora, hops, chamomile, hawthorn.  Avoid stress as much as possible, and learn whatever relaxation techniques work best.  And then practice them every day!  Support the body with a well-balanced organic diet, and if possible get tested for allergies and intolerances.  Anything that puts extra stress on the system is not going to help.  Learn to flow with the bodies natural rhythms - fighting against this illness only wears you out more.

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is considered to be a problem with endocrine gland function. It is not a simplistic disorder but appears to have complex origins. The problem for endocrinologists is the lack of diagnostic tests which are able to diagnose the condition. It is often confused with depression - unsurprisingly because they both arise due to problems with the thyroid.  Recent information published by the author in the book 'Virtual Scanning - a new generation of healthcare - beyond biomedicine?' illustrates how ME develops from an endocrine problem into a more complex disorder affecting the digestive system.  This is supported by recent findings of Dr Chia et al (J of Clinical Pathology 2005;58:1126-1132. Author: J K S Chia) who report that >80% of ME patients digestive system have enterovirus present.  If so, this would affect the function of the digestive tract (result in a chronic inflammatory state in the local tissues ) and conceivably the ability to absorb nutrients thereby creating the fatigue associated with ME. Dr Basant Puri has noted that ME patients respond to omega-3 fatty acid supplements. This is consistent with the lack of absorption of nutrients which subsequently affect brain function.

We support Dr Puri's hypothesis and would add that the patient should seek ways to regulate their sleep cycle and should seek to exercise in sunlight wherever possible.

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

Immune disorder, parasite infestation are just 2 of a number of causes of CFS

    Suggestion:

A liver cleansing.  Juice 1 whole, organic Beet and 1/2 of an apple everyday for 5 days.  Then a good Immune formula tincture

A colon Cleansing:  Dr. Richard Schultz has a great colon cleansing formula

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

I agree that a good magnesium supplement can be very useful. Most CF sufferers are found to be low in magnesium. But also a very good multi vit/mineral with optimum levels of antioxidants (not just RDA levels) can make a huge difference. Reverse Therapy is also worth checking out. There is a Reverse therapist in Bristol but others can probably be found on the net. Good luck.

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

I can verify for the daily intake of one 5mg of folic acid (vitamin B9) in combination with 100mcg of vitamin b12,in having great results in treating chronic fatigue...the gulf war veterans who had suffered for years up until recently and were unable to be helped by the might of the american medical profession.,are hailing this as a breakthrough in their treatment for CFS

I was heavilly contaminated with organochlorine and organophosphates 12 years ago, as a result of unknowingly working  contaminated land.the result being I developed severe clinical depression and chronic fatigue for a period of about 8 years...all endeavours to obtain help and even recognition a times were just not simply available from the australian medical profession...the only treatment offered me were the anti dressant drugs ,such as prozac etc etc....prozac in particular ...this had no affect in my case at all

on hearing about the american gulf war veterans , claiming a  lady doctor/scientist was their heroine after she had conducted successfull trials using folic acid in combination with B12 on many of them with great success....and being totally fed up,i decided to try....read more about it and commenced daily treatments...it took me about two months ,when i started to feel definately better and better, and within 4 months ,the best way of explaining it was " i had my mojo back" ...i have not looked back since these last 4 years

their is heaps of information coming to light on the internet, about this very subject...check it out

P.S at the same time i ceased drinking coffee as well

i hope this is of help to you

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

Check out mercury fillings. I am on a campaign as I have strong evidence that these are very harmful and patients are not being warned of the risks.

The evidence is from The International Academy for Oral Medicine and Toxicology who I am in contact with. They have sent me the dvd "Smoking teeth" which is at present with my local MP to see. You can see this on their web site. For political reasons this evidence is being ignored.

A small % of the population cannot excrete toxins in normal way & so are getting conditions such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and many other neurological  symptoms.

I believe mercury is responsible for many modern illnesses. I worked with it & have ben ill for 18 years. Please make sure they are removed properly though by a mercury free dentist.

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

About six years ago, I collapsed with glandular fever and was subsequently diagnosed with recurrent Epstein Barr Virus and ME/CFS.       I was largely housebound, often horizontal after the smallest of activities; and I remember walking around a shop when I could barely stand up, feeling my legs were about to give way; the items on the shelves blurring together and my list of three written items being impossible to remember.     This, from a member of Mensa and an ardent fell-walker!

I had a very active lifestyle: co-founded a literary trust, fundraised and organised its events; and worked long hours in the City and was never still; and the shock of an exceptionally full life being altered so dramatically was equally as hard to bear as was the concatenation of erratic symptoms.

Aside from the underlying, relentless mental and physical fatigue and recurrent sore throats, other symptoms occurred randomly: dizziness and severe balance difficulties; unrefreshing sleep; acute changes in temperature; indiscriminate food intolerances and increased sensitivity to smell, light, sound and chemicals (almost passing out near the detergent aisle of the supermarket); anxiety and depression (both endogenous within the condition, and exogenous as a result of a long-term condition); cognitive impairment (short-term memory loss, spacial disorientation, lack of concentration, and simple tasks such as filling in a form seemed insurmountable); not to mention the considerable discomfort of nausea, general aching, muscle cramps and searing head pains.    No wonder it often seemed hopeless to combat and heal all of that!

I once compiled up to 80 symptoms and, as there are hundreds of treatments and remedies proffered per symptom, it became bewildering and costly to keep on top of them all.  As long as I could sit upright, my hunt continued via the internet, books and research materials, trying many therapies and contacting ME experts and practitioners across the world, which brought temporary hope but, unfortunately, not a lasting solution.      The “Holy Grail of a Search” in order to find the answer was debilitating; and any small progress was always followed by a repeat of an onslaught of the above symptoms.

The disease seemed complex and was certainly overwhelming even for a previously mega fit person like myself, but the underlying cause of any and all illness - is a neglected, abused or over-compromised immune system; compounded by nutritional deficiencies.    I was absolutely determined, and knew I just had to find quality nutritional fuel to restore my body's defense mechanism - essential, not only to eliminate ME, but to sustain all human health and, more significantly, to prevent  disease in the first place thereby sustaining good health.     Eventually I did find what I was looking for and the results are explained an an article I wrote published in issue 106 of Healing Today, November 2006 which I can send you if you have an email address (mine is girasoledawn@hotmail.com and my number 020 7460 1600 if you would like to ask me any questions).

Twenty-one months later, I'm thriving and so are many others.

    Wishing you health

    Dawn

Homeopathy is usually very effective in treating this condition, and research evidence supports this. Comsult a homeopath registered with the Society of Homeopaths - www.homeopathy-soh.org

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

CFS  Chronic Fatique Syndrome or Fibromyalgia is an autoimmune condition.   It represents an immune system out of control.  The Autoimmune mechanism is gradually being sorted out.  There is new information just this year about it.    There is a effective Drug free systems of therapy.  Some workers find that occult [hidden] virus infections are a factor in the disease.

Traditionally it has been a condition of women.  However we are seeing more and more men with Lupus and CFS.

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

My son has recently recovered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. He detoxed from wheat and dairy products as he had chronic candidiasis, and he went back to basic fresh fruits, veggies and, along with plenty of rest took the following supplements:- magnesium, zinc, HGC+, Astragalus/Echinacea forte. His adrenal function was tested and came back very poor so he was also given a natural adrenal supplementation and Co Enzyme Q10. He is now back playing sport and holding down a physical job.

    Re: Chronic fatigue syndrome

My sister recovered from CFS and after 10 years is back at work. she received a free supply of glyconutrients from a friend which she took for a month. She noticed that she had lots more energy and much less pain, but failed to contact the friend before her supply of Ambrotose ran out. The second day after she finished her last dose her pain returned and she could not get out of bed. She ordered Ambrotose that day and has not missed a day since. Glyconutrients are pretty new but available from: www.mannatech.com/mlbush. Scientific papers about the products are found at the website: www.glycoscience.org. You can write me at: mlbush@gmail.com for further information
