Chocolate - the new super food

Chocolate has been utilized for many years and was called the "Food of the Gods" by the Mayans.  Because raw chocolate is incredibly high in antioxidants and trace minerals, there are many health benefits.  Research has shown that eating chocolate in its raw form can reduce cholesterol, lower blood pressure and help with weight loss.  Now Xocai has come up with fantastic products that are made up of the unprocessed, cold pressed chocolate.  They've added acai berry and blueberry to give you an even healthier dose of antioxidants.

To find out more about this healthy chocolate, check out my blog.  I look forward to  hearing from you.  Or come visit me on Facebook:  www.facebook.com/sharonju

Chocolate in it's raw form has health benefits.  You can't eat it neat you would need to put it in a recipe.  There are some really good raw chocolate recipes on the web.  There is one I make called 'Toby Roamed' (google it).  I make them in moulds and eat one each day from the fridge.

Re: Chocolate - the new super food

Get real! Like every foodstuff you have to take into account the hype. Firstly there are many types of chocolate. Secondly, most chocolate is formulated with oils, fatty acids, etc. Perhaps the one significant benefit of chocolate is that it contains relatively high levels of chromium which has definite benefits re diabetes, but to consider that taking high levels of chocolate will help your health.......who is sponsoring such articles? Cadbury or Nestle? Get real!

    Hi Fuenteselaine,

Eating chocolate...even raw, organic dark chocolate is unlikely to help your heart disease.

Read How To Eat,Move and be Healthy by Paul Chek.

Go to www.chekconnect.com and find a CHEK Practitioner in your area...the CHEK Institute is based in San Diego and there are many excellent practitioners in California...they will be able to help you address your health problems.

    Hope this helps

Re: Chocolate - the new super food

For all those skeptics out there, take a look at this chart from the USDA, which compares antioxidants in dark chocolate to other foods http://www.frutels.com/cocoa.html.

Also you can visit the Wikipedia article on chocolate which has all the published research cited for the benefits of chocolate  right here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocolate#Bibliography. Pretty extensive -  helps the heart, acne (cf. also www.frutels.com for the vitamin chocolate for acne, which takes advantage of all this great research!), blood sugar, muscle health and more. All of course without sugar, the actual culprit in all the negative things about chocolate.

    Hi Fuentelesaine,

Not everybody is convinced raw chocolate is good for you.

Please read at least this article before you start eating it.

Re: Chocolate - the new super food

    Hi!

Sorry, a tad confused with raw chocolate!

How can chocolate be raw, when it is made up of cocoa, loads of sugar (even organic stuff) +other things? Please explain(sorry feeling a bit silly asking the question but I had to ask!!)...beside,  all the sugar in chocolate + other food products eventually turn into fat if not burnt off, so wouldnt that increase cholestrol levels?

Re: Chocolate - the new super food

Have a look at the below links which a friend set me (she's a naturopathic nutritionist). The only pure chocolate I've come across so far is either cocoa powder (great with rice milk as hot chocolate), or cocoa nibs (raw cocoa bits in a packet).

What to do with cacao nibs?

       * Try eating them straight, one at a time. Chew it thoroughly and
experience the taste extravaganza of raw chocolate.
       * Add to *coconut*
         <http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/coconut_oil.html>-based or
fruit-based smoothies to enhance the flavor.
       * Add a drip of *agave nectar*
         <http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/agave.html> or honey or
another sweetening agent to the raw cacao bean and chew!
       * Freeze cacao beans with sweeteners (*agave nectar*
         <http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/agave.html> or honey are
         fantastic). Eat cold.
       * Blend cacao nibs into herbal teas with the Peruvian superfood
         *maca* <http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/maca.html>.
       * Crush cacao nibs with a mortar and pestle and add to raw ice
creams for the best chocolate chips in the world.
       * Create a raw chocolate bar! Blend the following raw ingredients
         together: cacao nibs, *agave nectar*
         <http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/agave.html>, carob powder,
         *maca* <http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/maca.html>,
         *coconut oil*
         <http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/coconut_oil.html>,
         *angstrom calcium*
         <http://www.detoxyourworld.com/acatalog/ionic_calcium.html>, and
cashews. Pour into a mold and freeze. Eat cold and experience the
truth about the food of the gods!

Cacao is great fun for everyone — especially kids!

This is a recipe for raw mole sauce which I created when one day I was wondering what I might do with my new bag of raw cacao nibs (ohmygosh, they are *divine*), and I suddenly had a hankering for mole!

This should absolutely be tweaked and adjusted for your own taste and whatever ingredients you have on hand:

    3 T raw tahini
    3 T raw almond butter
    3 t raw cacao nibs
3 t ground raw cacao powder

Place the above in a strong blender or a food processor and blend together until relatively smooth.

    Then add:

    1 large tomato
    1 small avocado
    1/2 small onion
1 handful of raw pumpkin seeds
    1 handful of raisins
    1 t minced garlic
    1 t Udo’s oil or olive oil
    1/2 t cayenne pepper
    1/2 t black peppercorns
    1/2 t cinnamon
    1/4 t ground cloves
    salt to taste

Blend well. Use immediately or store in fridge and let the flavours blend together a bit.

We serve it over mushrooms (mushroom mole), although there may be something over which it would be even better!

2 oranges, peeled and quartered, seeds removed
1 Tablespoon raw cacao nibs <http://www.adventuresinrawfood.com/what-to-do-with-raw-cacao-nibs-or-cocoa-nibs-aka-chocolate-nibs>
    1/2 cup water
Handful of ice cubes (about 6)
1-2 teaspoons agave nectar or honey (optional)

Place the oranges, water, and cacao nibs in the blender, and blend until liquified. Add ice cubes and process on high for about 20 seconds, or until the cacao nibs are reduced to just tiny specks or smaller.

    This is DELICIOUS!!!

This raw food drink is delicious, and sweet, and yummy, and so good for you!

    1 banana
    1-2 Tablespoons raw almond butter
1 tablespoon raw cacao nibs <http://www.adventuresinrawfood.com/what-to-do-with-raw-cacao-nibs-or-cocoa-nibs-aka-chocolate-nibs>
1/2 to 1 cup filtered water
    3 ice cubes

Combine the banana, the raw almond butter, the raw cacao nibs and the water in a blender and process until smooth. Add the ice cubes and process another 20 seconds until smooth.

Use more or less almond butter, and water, according to taste.

Re: Chocolate - the new super food

In my opinion another culprit in chocolate, apart from the sugar, is the processed, A1 gene cow's milk which can provoke childhood diabetes and heart disease - and which was never designed to be drunk by another species or after weaning, and is full of vaccines, antibiotics and other toxins from highly-sprayed food and often from cows unable to behave naturally (feed lots, or barns etc.). I think that's the longest sentence I've written.....
