    Post Nasal Drip

I have suffered from this for 15 years and doctors just won't take me seriously.  I am now 70 years old and can see I will have it untill I die.  I cough and cough till I heave and feel sick and can imagine me coughing myself to death eventually.

Its really getting me down, and I'd love to know if anyone else suffers from this, and if they have found anything that gives relief.  I have thought of acupuncture, but cann't afford it.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

This is actually a case of chronic catarrh.  I see it often in my practice.  I use a combination of homeopathy, supplementation and Chinese Herbal Medicine.  Have a look at my website and see if the matching of remedies using a hair sample appeals to you.  It allows me to give treatment at a distance with relative ease.  Treatment works out quite cost effective as it mainly the cost of the remedies themselves rather than repeated visits to a practice which would be the case with acupuncture.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

    Hi
I don't know what country you're in but if you go to: www.ibaglobalhealing.com and click on Practitioners you will be able to see if there is someone who practises BodyTalk near you. As the word indicates, we get answers from the innate intelligence - the energy system that subconsciously runs our body systems (and everything else in the Universe). Your problem could take one session, or more - it is the body that decides the priority sequence.
If there is no-one near you, you can make enquiries for a Distance Session, which works just as well, by clicking on the contact details of a practitioner or getting in touch with an Instructor (in any country).
You say you 'can't afford' acupuncture. Unless you were quoted a series of 10 sessions to pay in advance, where is the resistance coming from? It sounds as if you can't afford not to deal with your problem; it must be a terrible strain on your whole system, and whoever you go to (except maybe a medical doctor because of insurance etc.) you will need to pay them. I am suggesting BodyTalk because it can either get your systems communicating again and clear up this symptom, or tell you something medical needs to be done (for example). In other words, it doesn't rely on the knowledge of the practitioner, which could be biased or restricted depending on their training.

It is said: "Happiness is the absence of pain". You do not sound happy (with good cause) and I get the feeling that you want to know that something is going to work before you can afford to pay for it! I offer no guarantees, but from all the modems I have practised and experienced, I would say that BodyTalk gives you one of the best chances of getting value for money - and an answer.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply, I do appreciate someone taking me seriously for once.  I have looked at your website and it makes interesting reading.  You are right about the cost problem - I did have acupuncture for a frozen shoulder and it responded well - my GP had been unable to help, saying it would go away in a few weeks or months or perhaps years, and gave me painkillers.  It took about 6 sessions for the pain to go but I'd signed up for a course of 10 and as I'm on state pension (UK) at £10 a session, from just over £90 a week I wasn't left with a lot to live on.  This was several years ago so the cost of treatment will have increased by now.

Forgive me, but I'm still 'thinking about it' when it comes to the hair sample idea - my hair is dyed would that be a problem?

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

As a practising homeopath the only thing that has helped most of my patients who suffer from Post Nasal Drip is homeopathy together with dietary changes.  So an appointment with a good homeopath may just be the answer to your problems.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

I agree that homeopathy will almost certainly treat your problem successfully.   Some homeopaths offer low-cost sessions and homeopathy colleges offer free or almost free treatment.  If there is no college within travelling distance I suggest you contact some local homeopaths and see if they can help you.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

NeilMed Sinurinse is a salt rinse system which helps relieve and control the problem if not cure it. My GP recommended it for me. It is available from larger Boots or the internet. But also consider food intollerance particularly to dairy products.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

I have suffered from this type of drip for 20 years. Tried everything.

Only strict dairy free diet for at least 3 months helped  to clear my nose.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

Its good to know I'm not alone, thank you all.  One of the most difficult things for me is the fact that I can never seem to get a doctor to see how seriously this affects my life, so I kept a diary for 3 weeks and every time I was woken in the night by the coughing - I jotted the time down on a pad.  On average I wake up 5 times a night and I don't think this is acceptable, however when I showed thisto my Gp he just looked at me and asked what did I expect him to do about it?

I have recently tried antihistamine tablets which are helping a bit, and wondered if I dared go back to him and see if he has any bigger guns to offer, but he obviously thinks I'm a pest and isn't taking me seriously.  (I have tried the lactose-free diet and also wheat-free).

Does anyone know what causes it, and if there IS a cure or not?

    Hi

You might like to look at the emotional reason that Louise Hay talks about in her book "Heal Your Body" or "You Can Heal Your Life".  If this is resistant to any medical procedures etc. then it wouldn't hurt to give this a go.

    All the best

I got the books from Amazon, interesting theories.  As I've tried everything else, I suppose homeopathy is the next road to go down - but frankly I'm sceptical.

I am glad you have made that decision.  Good Luck.  Let me know if you need any student clinics nearer to where you live.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

do you suffer from 'tonsil stones' or just abnormal throat/nasal discharge?most chronic ear/nose/throat irritations are a sign of weakened immunity, which i strongly believe stems from an imbalanced GI tract.

from experience, i highly recommend supplementing protein and essential vitamins and minerals. in particular, highly digestable and fermented soy/goat protein, food-derived vitamin B complex, C, zinc. these all work in synergy with each other, and are the bare minimums for healing immunity. anything else like antioxidants, specific immune boosting actives etc are just a bonus and are not likely to work to REPAIR immunity but rather enhance what is already sufficient.

i have suffered chronic throat and nose discharge most of my life, i am in my early 20s now, and after the longest bout of tonsilitis/strep throat last year (most of the lymph nodes in my upper neck could not drain for a month) my symptoms have gradually disappeared.

although i had already been taking the abovementioned supplements for over 2 years, i did not notice a significant change until i switched to bio available (food based) versions. plus i also began drinking fresh kefir made from goats' milk early this year as well.

you would more likely find more sustained relief from improving your underlying immunity through dietary means. also very worth considering is good quality and multi spectrum probiotics.

in terms of cost, understandably most of the suggestions may not be economically sustainable over the long-term. the brands i take are medium-ranged, not cheap but they are not overpriced. specifically - mega foods, new chapter.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

I had this problem just recently and it was getting worse.  I have a dairy and wheat free diet which reduced it considerably and finally worked out the culprit - bananas!  I have at least one banana a day and when I eliminated them out of my diet the drip reduced unbelievably!  Just to test it and verifiy it in my mind I then purchased a couple of bananas and bingo back came the blocked sinuses, the pain in my face, nasal drip so now I avoid them.  Trouble is I love bananas sigh!  So basically it could be a food intolerance of some sort.  Good luck with your research.

    Re: Post Nasal Drip

Hi BBarb, I'm a 60 year old sufferer too. You have my sympathy

I would just love to hear from someone who has actually  tried homeopathy for PND and found that it worked.

Is there anyone out there who has succeeded with this treatment?

I have tried Cranial osteopathy, Chinese herbs, dietary changes - no dairy, wheat, spices - upping water intake, and allergy pills various, and although watching my diet does help, it hasn't stopped the catarrh. The only thing that clears my throat is chewing gum - so I look completely ridiculous, but is marginally better than coughing and choking.

Is PND just an allergic response to something?

Or does no one really know?

I shall try cutting out bananas as well, thanks for that Jaleana,

    Rasselas
