    Acne still - at 36

I have had acne now for 20 years, mostly on my chin, varying between large cystic spots or small spots.  It is really starting to get me down.  This has also left me with scars.  I eat well, mostly organic with just the ocassional treat.  I am keen not to go back on antibiotics that I took in my 20s as this has left its legacy in terms of candida and the corresponding symptoms.  I favour alternative methods now and am very open minded.  I live in Yorkshire.  Any advise would be very much apprecated.

I had terrible acne when I was younger and little helped it, including topicals, tetracyclines etc. After 7 years of suffering my GP prescribed roaccutane - a Vitamin A derivative - this cleared it within a week! Unbelievable!

roaccutane has side effects and is VERY expensive. It took several referrals to get it it prescribed, but it was worth the effort.

saying "roaccutane has side effects"  is something of an understatement. Just look it up in WDDTY! I wouldn't use it.

I have found Jan Marini BIOGLYCOLIC BIOCLEAR LOTION and Facial cleanser quite good (try ebay) albeit not cheap

I too have been on diets, seen alternative therapists etc etc. all seem to help a bit but I haven't cracked it yet.

I did a lot of google research around lasers and light therapy which i though looked quite promising: went to a mediical place determined to go for it and they persuaded me to go for the stuff above. Perhaps there was more money  in it for them to have me as a long term purchaser of expensive lotions! I then realised it was cheaper on ebay

    good luck

Mine was like that growing worse with each pregnancy, and not going away afterwards. A nightmare - constant antibiotics, topical creams, the lot. Nothing worked!  30 years older I started taking flax oil for another condition and within two weeks the acne had gone!!!!. Three years later it has still not returned. I take 1 tablespoon a day mixed into a yogurt. First thing in the morning. Its worth a try and there are lots of other benefits too - improved skin, strong nails arthritic pains reduced!!!!

    Good luck!

I had the same but it wasn't until I was older than you that I had a Vega  allergy test at a local health food shop which showed that I was very food intolerant to  all citrus. I packed in the orange juice and went onto apple juice, gave up any lemon in food and lo and behold no more spots.  I was also found to be intolerant to pineapple and tomatoes. just wish I had known about this while I was a lot younger!!

It might be a good idea to get tested for food allergies ( I was allergic to egg white and as soon as I stopped eggs my acne cleared up ..at the age of 30!)..also start the Blood Type Diet (D'adamo), which helps a great deal. ...especially avoiding wheat....Finally, a very effective lotion to use whilst the acne is clearing up, is AKNEDORON, by Weleda..it's a bit smelly, but very effective at calming and shrinking the acne spots.

I had acne from 25 through to 42 and it all stopped when I did the food intolerance test with www.yorktest.com as soon as I stopped eating the foods I was intolerant to, the spots disappeared and stay away now.  I used to get spots that were almost boils, all around the chin and sides of my face and they were so painful, but not anymore.  I also found that the asthma I had suffered from for 20 years went when I sorted out the food intolerances.

Hi. I find my skin is really sensitive to foods - lot of things bring me out in spots! Have you tried selectively cutting out dairy products, nuts, sugar, wheat, caffeine, even dried fruit and mushrooms?

Re: Acne still - at 36

You know, this could be a long but worthwhile journey and you may have to persevere to reach the light at the end.  Toxins are the main source and need to be removed by eating a diet that is mostly raw food!  Drinking plenty of distilled pure water 15 minutes before each time you eat, that applies to any size meal from snacks to mains.  Eat a good source of proteins and try to avoid almost all cereals, as they are full of sugar!  We call that 'The big white & deadly'!  There are some wonderful sweeteners that are not harmful - Agave and Xylitol.  Avoid milk from cows, as this one product is the main reason why so many get ill health today.  To allow yourself the pleasant taste of milk, try Goat & Sheep milk - you will be pleasantly surprised - both in taste and nutrient values.  Could I ask you to refrain from eating any beef or red meats please.  Try to eat fruits about 30-35 minutes before or after 'other' foods, as our body digests these differently than all other foods.  Chew, chew, chew your food, enabling the enzymes in the mouth to inform the gut of exactly what is 'on its way down'.  We need to use liquid soaps to cleans our body and you can find the best one by seeing the Amway brochure.  To rid oneself of Toxins ought to be a whole year business and this will eliminate all possible 'allergies' we might unknowingly have.  All in all I have just got to the tip of the Iceberg and it is down to yourself to eliminate all possible foods that are - overcooked, undercooked, should never be cooked and fruits that are seasonal to our home climate.  Our body was designed to do a wonderful job and over the thousands of years human kind has been on this earth, we haven't changed, just the foods that we eat have and are, being destroyed by Chemicals.  Our body has to go through a similar set of 'changes', as the amount of weed killers, pesticides, herbocides and growth hormones that are being placed on all vegetation today is awful.  Eat organic where ever you can, and some local farm shops may not be organically registered but do have some really healthy foods on offer to us.  I hope this is guiding you along the right path and allows you to see the wood for the trees!  Best regards Peter Mitchell Acn Nutritionist Dip

Re: Acne still - at 36

    Hi,

Loads of great suggestions.  I guess everyone is different and it could be absolutely any of the above possibilities, but I do resonate a lot with the previous poster.

I am a vegan, and I found that once I stopped eating dairy, my skin cleared up.  Not overnight - I still get the odd spot around the chin area, but I have read that spots in this area indicate weak kidney energy, and I have been prone to cystitis in the past (which, is aggravated by meat and dairy, amongst other things).

The raw foodist way of eating could be something to look into as Peter Mitchell said.  I agree with a lot of their philosophy, and am starting to up my intake of raw fruit and veg, as well as learn to prepare simple raw meals as I'm interested to see if I get the plentiful amounts of energy that raw foodists speak of.

Even if you couldn't make the leap to that straight away (and it would take some research), progressing towards reducing processed foods and cutting down on meat and dairy might be a good start.  And think again about your kidneys - perhaps your body is trying to tell you something.  Have you had kidney trouble at all?

I market a Soil based organism called "Rafaa" it is a live probiotic with 1.5 billion live bacteria , including acidophilus and sach boulardi, in a 50% humate base. 80% of this 50% is Fulvic acid. It was created by a soil scientist in Pretoria South Africa and has an international patent. A completely natural product with only positive benefits to the whole body.

I sold a bottle of "Rafaa" to a 26 year lady who was erupting in late stage achne. Within a month the difference was noticable and now four months later even the scars are begining to heal. She has been very impressed with "Rafaa". 500ml bottle sells for R125 plus postage and lasts for 25 days.

Re: Acne still - at 36

At risk of sounding a sour note I have also gone down the diet route, and most of the above, for years now. The problem is that as soon as i cut out one food another  problem one pops up, possibly due to "overuse".

I am sure that the  real question is why the body is intoerant or sensitive to perfectly normal foods which leads you into the territory of "leaky gut" which is a huge topic in itself and to be honest I've only just started scratching the surface of this one!

Re: Acne still - at 36

I have had acne my entire life and I am 49 now.  Thank the heavens for www.earthclinic.com and their suggestions.  Apple Cider Vinegar with water 3 times a day or as much as possible has cured my acne completely.  I also use it as my topical astringent.  It stings a little at first but once you try this the next morning you will not believe your eyes..............I want to add that I am a vegan, exercise everyday, drinks loads of water, juice veggies and fruits and eat organically.  I use coconut oil to cook with and I try to always eat at home.  I now have the clearest skin I have ever had and I have been breaking out since my teens.  In particular ice cream or any dairy/sweets are a big nono since the salt and sugar and dairy are a truly awful combination for acne sufferers.  I eat everything else except anything that comes from an animal.  I hope this helps..............
