    Re: Infertility treatment

All the best to you, also, Suzanne.

Just wanted to add to your account of alternative methods of raising fertility that my fertility problem was non-ovulation and I started myself ovulating using a low-sugar diet (see, e.g. http://www.amazon.com/Fertility-Foods-Optimize-Ovulation-Conception/dp/0743272811) in combination with acupuncture. Really quick to work!

All the doctors (including a specialist, who worked at a private clinic I was referred to via an NHS referral scheme, and who seemed to have a bafflingly low level of fertility awareness and asked me precisely zero questions about diet!) just wanted to stick me on a course of nasty drugs. As a last resort, maybe - but it seemed like a pretty inadequate, damaging, and expensive first resort...

I hope that may help someone in a similar position.

    Hi Sally,

I'm delighted to hear you managed to start ovulating again through your low-sugar diet. This is also recommended in the Fertile Heart approach. It really encourages you to find out what your body needs as there is no one magic fertility diet that will work for everyone!

All the best to you and your husband:)

    Suzanne

    Re: Infertility treatment

I'd recommend your daughter tries the contraceptive method called Persona (available from Boots) but uses it for the opposite of its intended purpose.

It is much cheaper to use than ovulation tests and only requires the user to pee on a test stick every morning.  No charts, pills etc.  The machine learns your cycle and can indicate when ovulation is occurring via a little indicator.  This has worked for a number of people that I know, some of whom had medical intervention, had been trying for years, and suffered a lot of heartache.

Its worth a try.  Use the red days as the indicator of the fertile time.  Don't bother during the green days.  Celebrate if it learns to spot ovulation.

All the medical tests, and pressure to do things at exactly the right time make the whole process of conception very difficult, especially if your daughter feels pressured by the amount of time she has spent trying to conceive.
