    Re: Painful leg ulcer

Go for the manuka honey, I used this together with melonin plasters on my daughter and it worked a treat.  There is a website you can look at that tells you why you need to have a bandage applied.

    Re: Painful leg ulcer

I have noticed that everyone is generally offering topical applications and i hope something works for you, it sounds awful. I am thinking from the cause point of view, if the swelling is creating the pain it would be an idea to reduce the swelling. There are plenty of natural anti-inflammatory remedies the best one being fish oil, whether you want to eat lots of fish or get a good quality supplement (check with your doctor first as it can affect some medication). The aloe vera juice someone mentioned would also be good, ginger, tumeric, pineapple and plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables (home grown or organic preferably) - as much as possible, lots of juices, soups and smoothies. Reducing meat, dairy, sugar, and refined carbohydrates as these can agrivate the inflammation. Vitamin C is really good for healing also.

I am also doubtful about unnecessary antibiotics, I think they do more harm than good. If you are on them permanently this can really destroy your natural flora, which are really helpful in reducing inflammation. It is possible to take natural flora (probiotics) while taking antibiotics, it just needs to be seperated by at least 3 hours, but i don't know how much help it would be while you are still taking antibiotics as this is usually done to help healthy colonisation once you come off. You might need to get yourself healthy first.

As you mentioned it has happened before, I wondered if you would like to prevent the ulcers in the first place? It might be an idea to seek advice from a natural practitioner.

The only thing to be aware of when orally taking colliodal silver is that it can kill good bacteria as well. To resolve this I know that people eat probiotics e.g natural yoghurt

Two people I know used the homoeopathic remedy Anthracinum 30 to effect the healing.

    Re: Painful leg ulcer

I suffered from these myself in the past, with much the same experience as you have had with prescribed treatments. Using Manuka honey with a dressing changed twice daily produced a permanent and painless cure within days. I recommend honey of MF18+ strength. This and full advice if needed can be obtained from newzealandhoneyshop.co.uk. - a company based in the UK. Manuka honey MF18+ has cured ulcers for myself, my family, and friends, when standard treatments have failed painfully.

    Dear Rosemary

I am so sorry to hear about your pain from a leg ulcer.  I concur with the use of Manuka honey. I think there is a Manuka 15 available from some health stores.  I also heard an anecdotal incident via a friend who knew an Indian nurse in a NHS hospital tending a patient with an ulcer who had more or less been given up on by the doctors, as they had tried everything they knew.  She asked if she could try her grandmothers remedy, which was Turmeric.  The doctors allowed her to do this.  She sprinkled the spice on a dressing and applied it to the ulcer.  It immediately showed signs of improvement, though I don't know how long it took to cure it.  I would advise you to try it first on a very small outer area.

    Good luck

    Hi Rosemary

Have you considered going on a supervised juice or water fast as this heals foot/leg ulcers.

    Best wishes,

    Gina

Hi Rosemary, Please can you keep us posted on any improvement or vice versa according to what treatments you try please? I have a friend in a very similar position to yours.  Thank you, Helen.  PS Have you tried sprinkles of salt water, applied once a day and letting it 'breath' for just a few minutes a day?

    Re: Painful leg ulcer

There are some excellent homoeopathic remedies for leg ulcers - some from the snake venom family. I would suggest you find a reputable registered homoeopath who will take a case history and treat YOU - the person who has the leg ulcers. Topical treatments may give relief but they do not address the underlying problem.

One patient I had swore that by exposing her legs to sunlight gave relief.

Try a lighter support by using a tubigrip(large size) up the WHOLE of your leg. A suspender belt will keep it up or sewing it to a pair of panties.

If the veins are swollen above or below the ulcer, Witch Hazel soaked cotton cloths (like a man's hankie) will help to reduce them. This can be wrapped round before you pull on the tubi-grip.It will also reduce swelling by evaporation.

    Good luck!

    Re: Painful leg ulcer

    Hi

Last summer I had this problem myself. I used Aloe Vera , not much help - then organic olive oil with cabbage leaf around and I cut of

an arm of a thin wollen sweter and put on top .  I also dipped this woolen "leg" in urine , and put on .

I used Colloidal Silver too. All this made it much better .

But when I came over GOTU COLA capsuls , that made the bad leg heal  !

But you need to be patient ! And remember to use herbs only for 3 months . Then take at least one months break .

    Good luck.

    Re: Painful leg ulcer

Hi there sorry you have such pain.

Dr John Diamond (Behavioural Kinesiology) who was advertised on this site not long ago --- during his recent lecture in London - told a story of the same and he had advised the inside of a banana skin applied and changed ad hoc with great success - they are also advised for plantar warts.

There is something fantastic on their inside.  (not only to assist people in slipping up....)

May I also recommend finding a Kinesiologist to balance the appropriate energy meridians and to reach the cause.

I trust you are finding relief with all the suggestions you have had..

    Re: Painful leg ulcer

There is another fantastic product made from Manuka (a tree native to NZ where I am from) and it is manuka oil. But one does have to dilute it as it can be quite strong. An 80 plus aunty put this one her leg ulcer and was amazed at the fact that it was cured. After years of stress and pain.

    Hope this helps

    Pam.

    Re: Painful leg ulcer

We looked after an elderly woman for about a month.  She had had leg ulcers for 15 or more years.  She was fed up with the compression bandages she had had for over 2 years and her ulcers were still bad, size of two pennies open sore on one leg

So she tried honey on the wound which she had heard may help.  We washed her legs with saline, put the honey all over the open wound (gently!) and the rough, reddened skin around and would cover with gauze and lightly bandage, mainly to prevent the honey getting everywhere.  We did this 3 or 4 times a day.   She also left her leg unbandeged sometimes.  The ulcer healed.  When she returned home there were no open sores, though her skin was still red and rough on her legs where the ulcers had been.  The medics back home resumed the compression bandaging, saying it worked and without it she risked infection.   Puzzling.  But it seemed clear to her and us the honey had helped hugely.

I don't know what to sugest for the pain but reducing the ulcer presumably helps.

     Hope you find relief.  Sue

I have used Manuka Honey with at less a rating of 5, brand Convita, which cleared up my father's ulcer. Just put it direct on the ulcer each day. He had previously tried a dry bandage approach. John

    Re: Painful leg ulcer

Get yourself some Bowen treatment.  Your system is clearly pretty toxic and a few Bowen treatments will help you to de-tox and get the energy moving freely.  www.thebowentechnique.

Use manuka honey on the wound.
