Re: CSR, Yahoo forum, tips & trial
In addition to the WDDTY forum I have found a CSR forum on Yahoo which has offered me some very useful advice. No cures, but the more we all talk the more we might be able to help each other. As an amalgamation of everything I have been reading I am about to embark on a 4 - 6 week self initiated trial. No alcohol, a variety of Forever Living Products supplements, haven't decided on the combination yet, a bit more research to do on that, holistic therapies, massage & reflexology, a conscious effort to avoid stressful situations and plenty of water. I'll let everyone know if I see any improvement. In answer to a few comments listed on both sites, I have to say I think it must depend on where in your vision the CSR blobs/distortion is, and the vision you have in the first place, as to whether your brain can adjust to it or not. I can clearly say that mine has not adjusted at all, in fact it is worse now than when it started in September. I have poor vision anyway, my CSR eye is also my worst vision eye and I have a really strong contact lense in that eye. Covering my bad eye does not help, but what I have found which has given me some relief is if I take my contact lenses out of my bad eye, so the other eye becomes dominant, it helps. I can't see anything in focus from the CSR eye, but at least it's everything and not just a moving part of the vision. I've only been doing it today, but I can feel a difference and I have high hopes for a respite from the constant headache I have. Also to the person who suggested I give up work, thank you I understand completely what you are saying, but my job is not particularly stressful, I already did the major change from corporate stress to normality a few years ago, what is stressful is just looking at stuff, work or otherwise, I think I'd have that anywhere, and also I think I'd be a lot more stressed if I couldn't pay the bills. Thank you for the kind words, they are appreciated. Yahoo forum http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/csreye

Re: CSR Central Serous Retinopathy
I was diagnosed recently, and have not opted for the laser treatment due to the risks that were outlined. I stare at a computer all day, and the condition is making my job very difficult. I have had maybe 10 headaches in my whole life before having csr, now I have a headache almost all day, every day. I feel for you, and hope that you get some more replies with people who have had treatment

Re: CSR Central Serous Retinopathy
Dear 'red', if you are not prepared to accept conventional medical treatment for CSR, you have three options: 1). Wait until your condition improves as CSR is a self-limited, i.e. tends to cease itself after certain period provided that causative factors are eliminated which means that you would be better to change your current occupation for something that does not involve staring at computer monitor all day long. 2). Engage yourself in a regular eye exercises regime according to Dr. William Bates method. I would recommend purchasing his book ‘Better Eyesight Without Glasses’ (might be out of print now, but you can search on internet). In his book Dr. Bates said that ‘errors of refraction are …due to derangement in the action of the muscles of the outside of the eyeball, and therefore can be eliminated’. 3). Purchase Green Light Goggles if regular eye exercise regime would be too demanding for your busy life style, thus you can use Green Light Goggles with USB connection connected to your beloved computer for four to eight minutes three times a day instead of doing Bates exercises. Log on to www.in-vivo-health.co.uk to place an order (the price is £129.25 including VAT and UK delivery). Besides the above I would also recommend proper detoxification programme under supervision of homotoxicologist, nutritional support for your eyes (freshly squeezed carrot juice every day or supplementing with carotenoids such as Lutein, Zeaxanthin and Lycopene as well as essential fatty acids) plus adrenal support. It’s better to apply for a professional advice rather than to engage in self-treatment. Re: CSR, Yahoo forum, tips & trial
All I've read or heard about CSR, including what medical advice I've received on the subject, seems to agree fairly well with my own personal variant of the condition. Having woken up one morning to a brown patch in the centre of my left eye, I saw a specialist (through NHS) who told me I had CSR, and that it affected mainly young to middle-aged people with a fairly high degree of stress in their lives (whatever the reason - personal, separation, job, etc - I was going through worst period of divorce). The doc told me that it would go away with time which to some extent has happened. The brown patch has gone but the distortion has remained although improving.all the time. Like in a previous comment, my CSR eye is the worse for sight and close-up text. I have never had any treatment for this and it is getting very slowly better, even to the fact that I am writing this without wearing my specs, not possible a year ago. This may be related to the reduction in stress levels over the last year.

Re: CSR Central Serous Retinopathy
Hi I have just been to the hospital today and also been told that I have CSR. I have a round disc floating centrally in my right eye. I can see this when I blink. The right eye has definitly got worse since I detected this (Thursday night... 14/08/2008). Anything with straight lines in this central area become distorted. I am going back on Wednesday for a check up and eye scan ( Hereford County Hospital). The doctor says it's something that should clear up in time but if not then laser surgery is an option. Apart from having mild cataracts, I have never had eye problems before so this is kind of scary for me. I am 44 now so I suppose this is the time of life when things start to go wrong and drop off!! Hi Just had the diagnosis today of CSR. I have a round disc lfloating located centrally in the right eye. Going back to Hereford hospital on Wednesday for an eye scan and if no better by 6 months then have been advised laser treatment. Rather scary at first as vision has gone down in the right eye and lines are disstorted where the circle is. Thanks Martin

Re: CSR Central Serous Retinopathy
You better to read the previous discussions about CSR on http://community.wddty.com/forums/thread/4165.aspx People with elevated levels of cortisol (a hormone secreted by adrenal cortex which allows body to deal with stress) have higher predisposition to CSR. Recently it was found that implication of Helicobacter pylori infection also playing a role. Recent evidence also shows that sufferers of glomerulonephritis type II (kidney disease) can develop retinal abnormalities including CSR caused by deposits of the same material that originally damaged the glomerular basement membrane in the kidneys. Perhaps your doctors would wish to investigate your condition further, but I doubt that as NHS standard approach is to treat the symptom, not the cause because it takes too much resources and time to investigate the cause. Regarding mild cataract - according to six-phase homotoxicosis table in Homotoxicology this is a matrix impregnation phases which can yet be treatable with methods of Homotoxicology. The treatment takes self-discipline, determination and certain attitude towards your own health, otherwise you better to proceed with what your GP and consultant offer in terms of a miracle cure. I have an elderly patient with severe cataract who was on the waiting list for lens replacement one year ago, but now, after two courses of anti-homotoxic therapy combined with three courses of bioresonant ophthalmic colour therapy using Green Light Goggles, she was struck off the list.
Hope it helps.

Re: Central serous retinopathy CSR
Folks I was diagnosed with CSR 8 or 9 years ago, and had read it can go within 4 to 8 weeks - yet I still have it - or something like it. I had my eyes lasered at the start to correct my vision, and the specialist did my left eye first to make it the dominant eye, so the CSR would affect me less. All this time later, my right eye seems to be fighting for its position as the dominant eye again, so when I'm driving, the cars are visible and only one of each, but the white lines split into two, and any boxes around what I'm reading distort. The laser guy told me I'd get cataracts early. I was told today it has started - I'm 57. I also had an undiagnosed skin condition several years ago and was given a steroid cream, and was told to watch my vision. It turns out a cause of CSR is steroids in the system - internal or external. All this seems highly related. I do drink too much wine, and liver conditions are another possible trigger. I was cleared for diabetes recently, so it's not that - possibly!! I loved my stressful job when I first got this - flying all over the world as a computer database consultant, and though giving up my own company and "going back to work", I enjoy my current stressful job doing democracy - with computers!! I'm a "Type=A" - I need the stress to know I'm alive. You guys are probably all the same - you need a buzz. But could do without the grey blob(s), the floaters as big as railway sleepers, and the flashes you see staring out into the blue sky from the window seat. The last eye-care site I found didn't even mention CSR, and linked my symptoms to Macular Holes - which is even more worrying, and another site suggested it may be linked to Cushings Disease - which one of our friends poodles has got. Even more worrying! I'm being referred back to Moorfields, I'll let you know what happens Rob

Re: Central serous retinopathy CSR
Checking my dates, it's only 6 years, not 8 or 9. But it hasn't gone away in all that time. Anyone else suffered this long? And has anyone had any of the possible treatments, and did they work? Regards Rob

Re: Central serous retinopathy CSR
I was diagnosed with chronic CSR last year. I experienced a fairly fast onset of near sighted vision in my left eye and initially put it down to hitting the forties. However when I got glasses I noticed a v shaped distortion when I read. This progressed to a distortion of any letters in the central vision area whether a t distance or near. Although the distortion has improved, I have been left with retinal scarring in the macular which I am told will not improve.I have been told it could continue to worsen and could appear in the right eye also. Probably like many of you, it is not satisfactory when you have such a critical threat to your health and well being with no known cause and no cure. (the position of my CSR prevents Laser and PDT.) It appears little research has been done to the cause so we should all push to try to gain useful information. Eye sight is vital to quality of life and I do not believe that there really is nothing that can be done. I will post any useful information I find here and urge others to do likewise.

Re: Central serous retinopathy CSR
Hi all, I was diagnosed with CSR last year in my left eye. Reading through this forum rings many truths & its good to know that i'm not alone. I too have the grey coloured bubble distortion in the centre of my bad eye. It all started when I was working a late shift & coming home at 3 am. I enjoyed the shift in my completely stress free job fixing aircraft. I found that I could get up at around 9 am & spend the day doing other things (moonlighting). I am really active & dont need loads of sleep & I think thats why my condition started, because one late shift too many is when it all happened. I remember thinking that when I wake up it will have disappeared, but alas, over a year later & its still with me. I quit the rat race in April & moved over to France to do up the holiday home we have here. I do'nt work any more apart from on the house & the condition began to ease. The distortion became less & i was almost back to normal when wallop out of the blue its full on again as at the start. I find my self opening & shutting each eye one after another to make comparisons all the time, or blinking at a white wall to see if the bubble is changing. People must think Im mad. What can you do? live with it I guess & in my experience get more sleep?? I do'nt think its age related because I was only 36 when I got it.

Re: Central serous retinopathy CSR
Hi, I'd just like to reply to your post. I was diagnosed with CSR in febuary 08 in my left eye. I woke up one morning with a huge black spot in the center of my left eye (as if i'd been staring into the sun, is the only way i can describe it) its now the end October and the dark circle has gone but my vison is greatly distorted!!! I can only describe it as; to look through my left eye is as if you were looking through a telescope the wrong way round. Objects appear much smaller and out of focus! Light plays a problem also, either too much light on an object or not enough adds to the distortion! Before being diagnosed, my vision was 20/20 in both eyes. I now found myself continously looking at objects through my bad eye to see how it compares to my good eye. It is consuming my life!! I'm 27 and realise my eyesight in that eye is basically a write off! I now find myself worrying about my other eye... if anything were to happen to that...!!!! I have a hospital oppointment this thursday, 30th Oct (again!!!) I have been 5 times and have had a different doctor each time... thats enough about the NHS. I just wanted to say i know exactly how you feel and its of some comfort that i'm not alone. I too find myself doing the same things as you! Best regards, Colin.

Re: Central serous retinopathy CSR
I've had this CSR for several years now, and after diagnosis at my local hospital with the yellow dye and x-rays etc, it took me six months or more to adapt to the symptons this wretched thing brings with it. Mine was brought on by a huge amount of stress. I woke one morning to find I had had enough, and my left eye was shot to pieces. It eased after nine months, and after this I managed to cope pretty well, often forgetting about the complaint at times, and my work as a fork lift driver was able to continue, albeit at a slower pace whilst my eyes adjusted or recalculated the distance differences back to my brain. However.......changes in my workplace has meant my fork truck job has gone, and my job is now computer based with the occassional use of small screen RF guns. After nine months of this adaption to close-up, high concentration PC work, my CSR has returned with a vengeance, so I have had to break away from work for a few weeks, for it to settle again. I've put this down again to stress. Having to keep to tight work schedules with no overtime, rushing, and needing more time in general to focus on the job in hand, each time the eyes move back to the screen. My opthalmic doctor told me there is no cure, damage to the central vision is permanently scarred. To existing and new sufferers of this complaint, to ease these symptons, lifestyle changes have to be made, and stress should be managed and avoided completely, if at all possible. Good Luck TPH Male 45/50 Years
