    Re: Itchy skin

I think I can help a few people with itchy skin.  I've had 24 hours/7 days a week itchy skin problem for as long as I can remember.  My Dad suffered from it and so does my brother.  About a year ago I read on some health site (it might have been here) that some people are allergic to chlorine added to all water systems, at least here in the states.  I had tried everything else so I purchased several bottles of drinking water sold in our supermarkets.  This water is filtered of of chlorine and many other chemicals and impurities.  I used this filtered water for drinking, morning coffee, tea, and even for cooking.  I drank no tap water.  In a few days I was setting watching TV and it hit me - I was not itching and scratching as I would normally be doing.  The red marks and scratches on my elbows, knees, legs, and buttocks cleared up.  I have been itch free for about a year and it is wonderful.  Unless someone has suffered through this problem they have no idea how madding and horrible it is.  Try it and see if it helps.

    Re: Itchy skin

My husband's skin has been much better since I stopped using washing powders and softeners and started using 'Soap Nuts'  I can buy these from a local Sustainability Centre but you can also buy them direct from  www.inasoapnutshell.com   He has however, gone on a 'dairy free' diet and used herbal creams prescribed by a herbalist so difficult to decide which has had the most effect.

    Re: Itchy skin

I have suffered from this problem for years to a greater or lesser extent and have tried nearly all of the above remedies at one time or another. The best solution for me was having a water softener - as long as we keep it topped up I now have only minor problems and can use any detergents/washing products.

    Itchy skin

Not sure what you mean by "mites". What you describe and the treatment you were eventually given, seem to indicate that what you had was "scabies". Yes, these are tiny mites that burrow under the skin and lay eggs. It's the eggs hatching and the larvae burrowing out that causes the dreadful itching.  My mother-in-law (now 85) had it two years ago and suffered for months, having been given all sorts of useless emollient creams and told she was exaggerating the symptoms, before it was finally properly diagnosed by a dermatologist.  But since the sufferer here has been to dermatologist, I hope that they would have checked for scabies and ruled it out.  Worth asking, perhaps?  And if so, it will take more than just one application of the special lotion, at least two, at a specified interval to make sure that the hatchlings are killed as well. Even so, it takes time for the itching to disappear completely, months more than weeks, in my mother-in-law's case.

Hope she finds the cause and gets some relief from the itching soon.

    Re: Itchy skin

I am a Kinesiologist and recently completed an allergy course called Nambudripads Allergy Elimination Technique (NAET) this is an amazing technique which uses Kinesiology to identify and rid the body of any allergys. The process gets amazing results for allergies of all types, and can help you find out what may be causing your itching and then rid your body of the problem. I highly recommend it. My sister was born with Eczema and her body had been covered in it for all of her 30 years of life, until she started seeing an NAET practitioner, now she is totally free of it, her skin has healed. You can find a practitioner in your country or state by looking up the website www.naet.com and clicking on the "Locate a practitioner" link.

    Good luck with it :-)

    Re: Itchy skin

A Kinesiologist would get to the bottom of this quite quickly.  Once they have established whether it is emotional, chemical, structural etc they can begin to work on the problem.  If it is a matter of intolerance to something it is very easy in Kinesiolgy to test food, powders, creams etc for sensitivities.

Kinesiology treats emotional problems really well.  The muscles cannot lie so no guess work is involved.  Bach Flower remedies work very well with emotional problems.

As a matter of interest do you suffer from anxiety, fear or feel threatened in any way???

    Re: Itchy skin

My mother suffers from kidney failure! when she is lower than normal in iron she starts persistant itching anywhere on  her body and again her Gp suggested various creams etc However when she went back to the renal clinic it emerged that her iron count had gone below 10 and apparently the phosphats in the blood starte the itching so maybe your motherin law should have some blood tests for low iron etc?

    Re: Itchy skin

Thank you so much everyone who has posted here; I'm really grateful. Hope I'm replying in a place where you can all receive my thanks!

It's my Mum - and she has tried a couple of complementary therapies including homoepathic sulpher; nutritional supplements etc. to some effect (though she won't admit it!) The itching is now only on her head rather than on her whole body.

Tried the bottled water - no good.

No new carpets; no change in lotions and creams. She has spent over £400 now on alternatives and dermatologists and is unwilling to cough up more 'for things that don't work' (which tells you her state of mind!)

I have suggested she talks to the doctor about blood pressure tablets. That may well be it.

She won't consider anything that would deal with emotions - which I'm sure must be at the root of it, although she's actually happier now than she ever has been in her life. Won't go to homeopath either (the sulpher came from my stocks). Doesn't believe in kinesiology etc. so no way I can get her to one...wish I could!

So I think we are at an impasse...She's got a lot of Leo in her chart so she won't be 'told' ! But fingers crossed for the blood pressure tabs.

     Thanks again. Very grateful.

    Re: Itchy skin

Since an itchy skin can be the result of the body trying to throw off toxins (most often the case) using detox patches on the feet can really help.  I proved this with my ageing father.

    Re: Itchy skin

Unfortunately for some people - even when they stop taking orthodox medication - especially some types of anti-hypertensives, the itching doesn't stop. Detox of the liver, drinking pure water - at least 2 litres a day - and ensuring that the patient uses soaps, shampoos and detergents which contain no harmful chemicals eventually will calm the skin to a less agitated state.  It is certainly worth checking out Miracle II products for this lady, the soothing detoxifying effect that these product have is worth the effort. They should be available in most countries and using google to locate a distributor or supplier should help. Diet is important too and until the itching stops a healthy vegetarian diet with no alcohol or cigarettes would be most beneficial.

    Re: Itchy skin

I have been suffering with itchy skin with no rash or visible signs. It can feel like having ants all over my body at times. After someone suggesting a link between the liver and itchy skin I did a little research and wondered if (ironically) it could be to do with skin/nail supplements I was taking - ie Vitamin A. Basically, I have been overloading my system with this vitamin and it has had an almost toxic effect. So, after cutting the vit A supplements out altogether and starting to take Milk Thistle daily, I have noticed a CONSIDERABLE improvement after only ten days. I also cut down on wheat - that seems to bring on itchiness. Lo! I can sit and watch tv of an evening without looking or feeling  like I am being attacked by tiny insects.

Re: Itchy skin in between elbows... what is it?

    Hi there,

Have recently noticed that I have two scaly spots in between my elbow joints of my right arm. Roundish in size, not ringworm as it is hollow in the middle, but about the size of a thumb nail. Reddish and a bit itchy at times..

Kind of like an eczema or demititis, however, am not sure how and why it came up as I am pretty careful with my diet and follow a Japanese diet most of the time. Not much bread, hardly any diary products. Not sure what to do about it and how to get it treated. I do reiki and go to yoga twice a week, so am in fairly healthy condition.

Do you have any suggestions or advice?

     Best regards

    Summer

    Re: Itchy skin

Yes, electrosensitivity does cause itchy skin.

My skin has itched for 18 yrs but now I am getting to the root of the problem it is so much better. No creams. Just avoid electromagnetic radiation as much as possible. DECT cordless phones are worst thing - even through neighbouring walls.
