    Epilepsy-Lamotrigine

i was put onto this horrible little bugger of a drug about 4 months ago for seizures and the doctor isn't even sure that the cause of the attacks are actually epilepsy! i'm a student struggling with university and i have been trying to battle depression on my own without drugs and the arrival of these are obviously less than helpful!! i've been having real trouble concentrating since they've started and its been made even worse by the medication, its messing about with my eyes also i cant focus properly and my hair is coming out. its funny because it seems to have made initial problems before i was prescibed a lot worse so i wonder if i should stop until the doctor actually gives me a proper diagnosis? as its not stopped the seizures yet and my GPs response to my cries for help are to take more and more a day until i cant physically take anymore without "serious" harm!! also something else that's strange is that the siezures started when i moved house into a new flat!! i guess i'm just a bizarre creature! SO.. so far lamotrigine has not been all that positive with me!

    Hi - Jenna?
Your posting is a bit ambiguous: do you have a question for anybody on this site? I see you are 'wondering' if you should go off this drug until the doctor is sure of what he knows. Quite frankly, most of us will be wondering why you agreed to go on it in the first place - putting your trust in a man who hadn't made a firm diagnosis .. and suffer it for 4 months.

If you want to know about this drug, Google its side-effects. If you want to know how to limit the internal damage it is no doubt doing, ask away. I doubt anybody will be telling you whether to go off or stay on this drug - that's nobody's business but yours and we don't tell anybody what to do (or shouldn't).

In the meantime, you could find a BodyTalk practitioner near you (www.bodytalksystem.com, click on practitioner/country) and get some answers from the only source that can give you true answers - your own body, with regard to your depression and your affliction.

    Good luck.

    Hi Jenna

My son was very badly affected by seizures and epilepsy for many years when he was young.  Anti-convulsants did seem to help a little but each drug appeared to change his mood, ability to concentrate and character.  About 8 years ago, I started him on Maximol and Revenol (Neways nutritional supplements) and these have had an amazing reduction in his seizures (in fact he has not had a proper seizure for several years) and allowed him to significantly reduce the medication he is taking.  If you would like to know more, please email me on info@crtherapies.co.uk

    Hope this helps.

    Chris

Change your GP. This one sounds useless!

What type of seizures are you suffering? (grand-mal, petit-mal, or other). Have you had brain scans? Any other blood tests? Do the seizures happen at particular times of the day, or when you are tired, or in a particular location?

Has your new flat been checked for carbon monoxide leaks?  Do you work with any chemicals? (I developed 'brain fog' and blurred vision years ago through contact with terpentine on an arts course. Switched to an alternative and it stopped). Are you now driving further due to the location of the flat? If so, then get the car exhaust checked.

What is your diet like, and has it changed since moving into your new flat? What is your alcohol consumption?

Are you/have you been on any other medication?

Epilepsy Action may be able to advise on where you could go for a second opinion http://www.epilepsy.org.uk/

    Good luck
