    methacholine test

Has anyone had any side effects to a methacholine test to check for asthma. I had minor breathing problems before the test, when I got around a respiratory irritant, but now since taking the methacholine test where my breathing dropped 52% I had troubling breathing from day to day. The doctor has put me on numberous inhalers, inhaler solutions, pills, etc and I seem to be allergic to everything. There's times I don't feel like I'm going to be able to take in enough oxygen to keep me alive. Is this normal?

    Re: methacholine test

Hi - there's a reason why this site is called What Doctors Don't Tell You. Below, which I sourced on Google, is apparently what your doctor didn't tell you! I hope you read it carefully and sort out what you did, and had, before you went for the test, and what is happening afterwards. Then print it off and take it back to the doctor and ask him/her if he took care to ask all the cautioning questions of you beforehand.

Then I would Google (some of them come up under Drugs.com) the names of every other drug he has given you to counter the SIDE-EFFECTS of the first drug, to see if you're doing yourself even more harm, and if you continue to use a medical doctor as your first port of call, MAKE SURE YOU APPRISE YOURSELF OF ALL THE POSSIBLE SIDE-EFFECTS for your own safety. It is a myth that drugs heal you; they simply suppress the symptoms.

Doctors are not gods - in fact they sometimes act like demons; most operate from a very narrow corridor of knowledge, that of drug dispersement. However, they are given permission to play god with our bodies only if we let them. Perhaps your first step to taking back your own power is coming on this site. Let us hope that the road back to health for you is not a long and torturous one.

In the meantime, try to find a Smart Bowen therapist (don't know about the others like BowTech) and ask for the asthma movement to try and ease the constriction if that is possible and see a naturopath about clearing your body of these chemicals (maybe Chlorella or something stronger). Perhaps first, go on www.bodytalksystem.com and click on Videos then learn the Cortises movement immediately. That will calm your mind because panic will be making things worse (understandably). Look for a practitioner near you who can help as soon as you can think straight. Hope some of that helps; now read below and try not to weep.....

Methacholine Solution is only used during lung function tests to determine if a patient has asthma. It is not used to treat asthma. Methacholine Solution may cause severe breathing problems in some patients. It should only be used in a setting where emergency medicines and equipment are available to treat severe breathing problems if they occur. Methacholine Solution should not be given to anyone who has apparent symptoms of asthma, wheezing, or very low lung function tests.

    • you are allergic to any ingredient in Methacholine Solution or to similar medicines
    • you are taking a beta-blocker (eg, propranolol)
    • you have symptoms of asthma (eg, wheezing) or very low lung function test results
    • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
    • if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
    • if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
    • if you have seizures, heart disease, thyroid disease, blockage of the bladder or trouble urinating, eye problems, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), high or low blood pressure, nerve problems (eg, vagotonia), Parkinson disease, glaucoma, intestinal or abdominal problems, or stomach ulcers

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Methacholine Solution. Tell your health care provider if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

    • Beta-blockers (eg, propranolol) because the side effects of Methacholine Solution, such as difficulty breathing, may be increased

    Headache; itching; lightheadedness; throat irritation.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:

Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); chest pain; cough; fainting; severe dizziness; wheezing.

This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your health care provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

    P.S.

Maybe EFT will help you. Go to www.emofree.com and click on country and practitioner. Or find someone who does phone work. Hope you're still OK...

    Re: methacholine test

Hi - I am interested in learning more about your Methacholine Challenge Test - I just had one done last week and am having what thus far appears to be lingering hyperreactive airways to a variety of things.  I droped 48% after the second inhalation of the Methacholine.

When did you have the test done?  Are you feeling any better now?  What meds have the docs given to you?

    Thanks,
    Sandy

    Sandy
Based on the fact that you're still asking this question after what I wrote about this drug - which, by the way, seems only meant to be used on people displaying no signs at all of asthma, provoking the question "Why have it in the first place?" - I am prompted to say that I believe you are on the wrong site!

If you want to discuss doctors' methods and what their drugs are doing to you, then you need to go to a medical site where you are among like-minded souls chatting about their experience with it; this site is set up for those who are looking for holistic ways to become/stay healthy.
I am hoping that the silence from this poster is not ominous but I would not be surprised, judging by the list of contra-indications - most of which we wouldn't even know we've got!.

If you have a question as to how to eliminate the effects of this potentially health-destroying drug, ask away - you could start with some of the things I mentioned in my reply above (which you seem to have completely by-passed); and I'm sure you will have lots of other helpful responses, otherwise I believe you are wasting your time here.

    Cheers, Heidi

    Re: methacholine test

    Hi

May I suggest that you look at Louise Hay's book - You Can Heal Your Life.  You might find some answers there as to your problems with breathing - breath is life.

    Wishing you well.
